PURPOSE OF TOURISM LAWS ACCORDING TO
THE UNITED NATIONS WORLD TOURISM
ORGANIZATION (UNWTO)
The purpose of travel legislation is to provide a
regulatory framework for the proper
development and management of tourism
activities. Ideally, this will aid in the
conservation of natural resources and the
preservation of cultural traditions.
REPUBLIC ACT 9593: TOURISM
ACT OF 2009

> A policy that acknowledges tourism as an indispensable element of national
economy and an industry of national interest and importance.
> Tourism is now a major revenue generator, a catalyst for socio-economic

TOURISM ACT OF 2009 COVERS MANY OTHER POLICY
POSITIONS ON TOURISM SUCH AS:
• Preferential treatment to the employment of Filiino nationals;
• Prevention of exploitation of women and children in tourism;
• Full government assistance by way of competitive investment incentives;
• Enhancement of the tourism data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
• International standards of excellence in all tourism facilities and services.
• balanced tourism development between ubran and rural areas as a strategy
to alleviate poverty and reduce regional imbalances.
• International business relations through partnership, joint ventures, and
other cooperative undertakings involving local and foreign investors.
• Responsible tourism as a strategy for environmentally sound and
community participatory tourism programs which includes indigenous
peoples.

permanent position for a tourism officer, Furthermore,
the laws specifies that the TO must have a bachelor's
degree and five years of tourism industry experience.
