PURPOSES OF ICU \ CCU
Purposes of ICU Primary goal of ICU care is to preserve life ,prevent complication and restore optimal functional capacity of patients both physical and emotional . Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill patients with necessary management of ABC by continuous monitoring and observing patient’s condition. Contd… Be alert for any changes in consciousness circulatory , hemodynamic condition , fluid and electrolytes balance and thermal controls etc . Reduce hospital mortality rate . Provide maximum care to patient in emergency condition by using sophisticated non invasive and invasive monitoring by use of defibrillators , ventilators , arterial line and infusion pumps . Contd… Keep ready all the equipments in ICU for use . Educate patient on chronic disease , acute distress condition , prolong treatment and rehabilitation after the recovery. Purposes of CCU Provide skilled nursing care to cardiac patients with continuous observation and monitoring of all patient’s ECG and clinical status for timely detection and immediate management of different arrhythmias and other condition. Manage serious complication of CAD eg pulmonary oedema , cardiogenic shock and brady arrhythmia. Contd.. Emergency and resuscitative treatment by the use of special life saving drugs eg Streptokinase , Isoprinaline , Lignocaine and CPR, defibrillators . Use of temporary and permanent pacemakers when necessary . Contd.. Primary rehabilitation of patients with CAD. Provide patient’s education on cardiac disease and life long treatment .
