The activity and discipline aimed at understanding the moral values that ought to guide engineering practices, resolving moral issues in engineering, and justifying moral judgment concerning engineering.

It will help protect engineers and those they care about from being injured by other engineers. It will help create a working environment that makes it easier for an engineer to resist the pressure to do wrong. It will help make engineering practice about which they need not feel justified embarrassment, shame or guilt. It is an obligation of fairness to do ones part, assuming that others do theirs.
