WHO IS HE?

Jeff Koon’s is a popular American artist


with his work dealing with popular
culture and sculptures of everyday
objects. His artistic intention was to
“communicate with the masses.”

START

Jeff Koon’s was born in York,


Pennsylvania in 1955. Koon’s
studied at the School of the
Art Institute of Chicago and
the Maryland Institute College
of Art in Baltimore and
received a BFA from the
college of art.

HOW JEFF KOON’S WORK WAS MADE

Jeff Koon often makes his works


designs through the usage of
computer technology by building
how he wants that work to look
like before he hands over the
digital prototypes to his studio
assistants and other specialists
that help him. Which then they
use stainless steel to make his
sculptures and finished with a
blue, magenta, orange, red or
yellow translucent coating.

MATTER

Jeff Koon has different subject matters determining


every section of art like how his balloon art
collection are a representation of breath and
human life. Another example in in which his
banality series is a celebration of popular culture
and the banal.

GALLERY

Jeff Koon has used multiple galleries over time and


the galleries he has been in are the Sonnabend
Gallery, Galerie Max Hetzler, Gagosian Gallery and
the most recent one that will be hosting him is
Pace Gallery.

MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

Jeff Koon’s work has been in several museums


around the world, some of the museum which
house some of his work are Carnegie Museum of
Art, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art,
Stedelijk Museum and many more.

AWARDS

Over the years Jeff Koon has received many


awards for his fascinating works some of the most
recent awards he has obtained are Anniversary
Medal for the completion of 200 years since the
start of the Greek Revolution, Renaissance Man of
the Year Award, and the Trophée des Arts Award.

SEATED BALLERINA

Jeff Koon is often referencing historical imagery


and found objects in his work and this time is no
different as he based this off a small porcelain
figurine. This sculpture also works as a
contemporary iteration of the goddess Venus and
symbolizes beauty and connectivity.

GAZING BALL

Jeff Koon released 35 masterpieces or artwork that


was already known but with a twist, each one has
a large, blue glass bauble, or “gazing ball” as he
calls it. Jeff Koon said that they “represent the
vastness of the universe and at the same time the
intimacy of right here, right now”.
