• Filipino artists play a vital role in presenting and
educating the public about our history, culture, and
identity. There are many Filipino artists in the field of
music and dance who give their ample contribution
to their respective specialization.
• Contemporary artists contributed their share in
introducing innovative sound, artistic dance styles
from traditional folk dance and kundiman melodies
that we have accustomed to some adapt the
impressionistic style, while other combined ethnic,
sounds and steps and musical elements with
western techniques in their compositions and styles.

Efforts by the government to introduce Filipino artist

growing Industry and foreign interest in their works.
Ryan Cayabyab
(Raymundo Cipriano Pujante Cayabyab)

His works range from


commissioned full lengths ballets,
theater musicals, choral pieces, a
Mass set to unaccompanied chorus,
and television specials. Among of his
various compositions are; Da Coconut
performed by Smokey Mountain and
Anak ng Pasig by Geneva Cruz.
National Music Artist for Literature. Levi Calerio
A Filipino lyricist and composer. He
was recognized by the Guinness Book
of World Records for being the only
musician who could play using a leaf.
He was a Filipino composer and
lyricist who is credited to writing not
less than 4,000 songs. Celerio was
recognized as a National Artist of the
Philippines for Music and Literature in
1997.
Nicanor
Abelardo He was credited for bringing the
Kundiman to the level of Arts. One of
the Triumvirate of Filipino composers.

He wrote most of his important


works while teaching at the
conservatory. His graduation piece, a
Piano Sonata in G Major., was his first
Sonata made by a Filipino composer
and his post-graduate piece.
Alice Reyes
The Mother of Contemporary
Dance. The founder of Ballet
Philippines.

She made a lasting impact on the


development and promotion of
Contemporary Dance in the Phils. and
her biggest contribution is the
development of distinctly Filipino
Modern Dance.
Francisca Reyes
Aquino
She is the Folkdance pioneer in the
Philippines. She published enormous
books regarding Philippine Dances
like Fundamental of Dances Steps
and Music.

She publish a thesis in1926


entitled Philippine Folk Dances and
games where she noted on previously
unrecorded forms of local celebration,
ritual and sports.
Ramon
Obusan

He promoted the Philippine ethnic


dances and performed them with
respect and authenticity. He also
acclaimed archivist, researcher and
documentary film maker on focused
on Phil culture.
Philippine Contemporary Art

Philippine Contemporary art is the art of


expression of one’s feelings, through creating out
their imagination. This refers to art made and
produced by artist living today. Philippine artist
contributed their share in introducing modern sounds
and artistic styles. Filipino artists play an important
role in presenting and educating about our history
and identity.
