responsible connection with society. Tree planting is the process in which
tree seedlings are transplanted generally for forestry, land reclamation, or
landscaping purposes. Cultural heritage is our reference point to the past.

ORGANIC FARMING AND WASTE MANAGEMENT
Introduction:
• Organic farming refers to the management and agriculture production system
that natural material, avoiding synthetic substances to maintain the fertility of the
soil and environmental damage.
• In simpler words it defines as a farming method of growing and nurturing crops
in a natural way. It basically involves the use of green manure, compost,
biological pest control and more.
• Organic farming, also known as ecological farming or biological farming, is an
agricultural system that uses fertilizers of organic origin such as compost
manure, green manure, and bone meal and places emphasis on techniques such
as crop rotation and companion planting.

23 Dept. of CS&E (DATA SCIENCE) December 7, 2024

• This includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of waste, together
with monitoring and regulation of the waste management process and waste
related laws, technologies, economic mechanisms.
• Waste can be solid, liquid, or gases and each type has different methods of
disposal and management.
• Waste management deals with all types of waste, including industrial, biological,
household, municipal, organic, biomedical, radioactive waste.

24 Dept. of CS&E (DATA SCIENCE) December 7, 2024

Soil management

• Organic farming relies more heavily on the natural breakdown of organic matter
than the average conventional farm, using techniques like green manure and
composting, to replace nutrients taken from the soil by previous crops.
• This biological process, driven by microorganisms such as mycorrhiza and
earthworms, releases nutrients available to plants throughout the growing season.

25 Dept. of CS&E (DATA SCIENCE) December 7, 2024

Types of Organic Farming
Organic Farming is divided into two types, namely:
1. Pure organic farming.
2. Integrated organic farming.
1. Pure organic farming: Means avoiding all unnatural chemicals. In this process of
farming, all the fertilizers and pesticides are obtained from natural sources such ass
bone meal or blood meal.
2. Integrated organic farming: Includes the integration of pest management and
nutrient
management to achieve ecological requirements and demands.

Need of Organic Farming

• Increase in the population make compulsion to stabilize agricultural production, but
to,
increase it further, in sustainable manner.
• Natural balance needs to be maintained at all cost for existence of life and property.
• Agrochemicals which are produced from fossil fuel and are not renewable and are
diminishing in availability.

26 Dept. of CS&E (DATA SCIENCE) December 7, 2024

Waste Management
• Waste management or waste disposal includes the processes and actions required
to manage waste from its inception to its final disposal.
• This includes the collection, transport, treatment and disposal of water, together
with monitoring and regulation of waste management process and waste-related laws,
technologies, economic mechanisms.

27 Dept. of CS&E (DATA SCIENCE) December 7, 2024

Outcomes
• Farmers can reduce their production costs because they do not need expensive
chemicals and fertilizers.
• Healthier farm workers.
• They improve plant growth and physiological activities of plants.
• In the long term, organic farms save energy and protect the environment.
• There is an increasing consumer are willing to pay more for organic food

WATER CONSERVATION
Introduction
 Water conservation is a broad category that covers simple ways to save
water at home to complex, long term measures taken to preserve water on a
larger scale.
 70%of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, through it is not entirely
useful to humans.
 Water conservation is the practice of an efficient usage of water by reducing
unnecessary wastage of the same.
 The importance of water conservation becomes even more necessary as
there is a limited source of freshwater that is beneficial for all human being
for a Healthy lifestyle
 The freshwater available for use is unevenly distributed. Human activities
arepolluting the water source threatening the survival of living beings. So,
waterconservation focuses on the concept of “Save water and save a life”.

Module - 4

Need for Conservation of Water:

 It comes as no surprise that water is one of the most essential elements for
survival of any form of lifeform on the surface of Earth.
 The presence of water is what makes Earth different from any other planet.
 The need to maintain the constant flow of water comes from its vitality for
survival of all flora and fauna on the Earth.
 Just because a portion of the human population has easy access to water
resources, we keep forgetting why saving water is important.
 Saving water is not only a necessity for humans, our careless waste of water
is also affecting the animals and plants arounds us.
 There are serious consequences of water depletion.
