• This is because the task of ensuring safety in todays world has become

• The security officers are always the first organizations staff that a
customer meets
• So you are the first impression the customer gets

“there is no second opportunity

to create a first impression”
WHAT THIS MEANS IS THAT

• How you look or do not look,

• What you do or do not do,
• What you say or do not say,
• Will go a long way to helping the customer
or visitor form an impression of the
organization
WHAT IMPRESSION DO YOU WANT TO
CREATE?

• As part of their compliance process with the

operational risk management
requirements, security outfits must define how they deal with
threats.
• security risk management planning entails that a standard
procedure must be followed in assessing and mitigating security
threats.
FIVE STEPS TO CREATING A SECURITY RISK
MITIGATION PLAN
• IDENTIFY RISK
• Identify potential events and
event sequences where risk is
presented.
• Risk can be in the form od
existing vulnerabilities an the
organization or known threats
ASSESS THE RISK

• Perform a risk
assessment of the event.
• Find the quantitative risk
of each event by
weighting its potential
impact and the likelihood
of it occurring
PRIORITIZE THE THREATS

• Once a risk assessment

has been completed,
rank the potential risk
from most severe to
least.
• Area with the lowest

level of acceptable risk

should be the priority
TRACK RISK

• If the risk can be followed,

keep track of it and the
threats it poses,
• For example tracking a
group of drunk friends in
the hotel.
• Or tracking unusual
movement outside the
hotel premises.
IMPLEMENT AND MONITOR PROGRESS

• Once a situation is on your

radar, a mitigation plan should
be put in place.
• Continue to monitor how it is
working and perform test to
ensure that the plan is up and
going.
• And change your risk plan if
events or priorities changes
