calculations

1. Aircraft on ground, weight on wheels, power available, Battery and Avionics Master ON
2. From and MFD, select MENU > INIT REF > PAGE 2 > MAINT
3. Password is a 1 from the scratchpad

Using Search
The FMS can create three types of search patterns from a search fix: expanding
square, creeping ladder
and sector search. The search pattern may either be entered during route entry
on the ground or while
in flight. The FMS will generate 10 turns of the pattern but may be ended
manually by either replacing
the pattern waypoint or using the search pattern controls.
In flight, a PPOS prompt (5L) on the FMS search definition page (SQUARE,
LADDER, or SECTOR) for
starting the search from present position.

NOTE: Only one search pattern solution can be active


in any one
flight plan at a time.
NOTE: A reference must be provided from the SPAD or
from a NRST
selection, and like other FMS calculations, a route
must be active
(origin, destination and leg defined) for the system to
operate.

Square Search
Initial leg lengths are changed via the SPAD at R1.

The distance between passes is as specified, in this case 8 nm. LENGTH can be from 0.1 to 40
nm. The pattern propagates for 10 turn points. The SAR BRG defaults to the current bearing to
the fix.
When the search pattern end is reached, the FMS advisory END OF SEARCH is displayed

Ladder Search

Ladder length and width is adjusted via the


SPAD at R1 and R2.

LENGTH values from 0.1 to 40 define distances between


ladder rungs, while width defines the width (0.1 to 40 nm)
of the ladder pattern. Ladder propagation appears as along
the SAR bearing of the width and length specified. The
Pattern runs for 10 turn points.

As with other search patterns, note the LEGS


page only displays the “/S” to advise of a search.

Sector Search

Sector diameter, angle and initial bearing are input


from the DES+SAR page of INIT REF. Sector diameters of
0.1 to 40 nm are allowed, and sector angles from 5 to
90 degrees. The SAR BRG defaults to the current
bearing to the fix.
