Secure a room status report from your Supervisor
Priorities Room Cleaning as Follows :
• FIRST ==== Check out room, specially those blocked or
reserved for arriving guests
• SECOND === Rooms with make up request
• THIRD === Occupied rooms without request and without a
make up sign
• FOURTH ==== Vacant rooms that needs follow-up
Toilet and Bathroom Cleaning
• 1. Gather necessary cleaning supplies: Prepare a bucket, cleaning solution, scrub
brush, toilet brush, microfiber cloths, gloves, and a mop.
• Spray Sanitizing Solution, Flush the toilet Bowl 2x, apply toilet bowl solution
and Closed the door
• 2. Start with the exterior: Begin by cleaning the exterior of the toilet and
bathroom. Wipe down the sink, countertop, mirror, and any other surfaces with a
damp microfiber cloth.

• 3. Remove items: Clear the bathroom of any unnecessary items such as towels,
toiletries, and decorations. This will make it easier to clean the area thoroughly.

• 4. Clean the toilet: Apply the cleaning solution to the toilet bowl, ensuring it
reaches all areas, including the inside, outside, and underneath. Let it sit for a
few minutes to break down any dirt and grime.
Toilet and Bathroom Cleaning
• 5. Scrub the toilet: Use the toilet brush to scrub the bowl, paying special attention to the
corners and the area where the water line is. Don't forget to clean the toilet seat and the lid.

• 6. Wipe down the exterior: Clean the exterior of the toilet, including the base, with a damp
microfiber cloth or scrub brush. Make sure to remove any mold or mildew that may have
formed.

• 7. Clean the sink and countertop: Apply cleaning solution to the sink and countertop, then
use a scrub brush or sponge to remove any dirt or stains. Rinse with clean water and dry with
a microfiber cloth.

• 8. Mop the floor: Fill the bucket with warm water and a small amount of cleaning solution.
Dip the mop into the bucket and wring it out, then mop the bathroom floor, paying attention
to corners and edges.

Toilet and Bathroom Cleaning
• 9. Clean the mirror: Use a microfiber cloth and glass
cleaner to clean the bathroom mirror, ensuring streak-
free results.

• 10. Replace items: Put back any items you removed


earlier, such as towels and toiletries. Make sure they are
neatly arranged and in their proper places.

• 11. Finish up: Dispose of any used cleaning materials,


such as gloves and cloths, and ensure the bathroom is left

The staff considers the following points while loading
chambermaid’s trolley.
•• Loading the trolley with adequate supplies
depending upon the number and types of the rooms on
the floor.
•• Avoiding to overload the trolley that may lead to any
accidents.
•• Avoiding to underload the trolley that may lead to
make unnecessary trips to supplies store.
SOP for Setting the Chambermaid’s
Trolley
• Empty the trolley.
• Check rapidly for any broken parts.
• Clean it by dusting and wiping any stains.
• Place the items according to their weight:
heaviest items at the bottom and lighter items at
the top section of the trolley.
• Place the linen for different purpose separately.
• Close the lids of cleaner bottles and liquid cans
tightly.

• Record the numbers and types of the


items loaded in the trolley for the rooms.
• Collect the room keys/key cards
• Take the trolley to the assigned duty
floor.
• Park it outside the room such that the
linen side faces outside and the room
entrance is blocked.
SOP for Entering the Guest Room
The housekeeping staff should follow the SOP given below for entering the guest room.
• Leave the DND (Do not Disturb) rooms undisturbed.
• Knock the door with knuckles and announce in pleasant voice,
“Housekeeping…”.
• Wait for five seconds to hear the guest’s response.
• In case of no response, announce the same again.
• In there is no answer second time too, open the door with the key.
• Enter the room.
• If the guest is found sleeping, withdraw from the room quietly.
• In case the guest answers, ask politely when would he like to service the room.
• In case the guest wants it later, acknowledge his reply and withdraw from the
room.
• If the housekeeping work is in progress and the guest returns from outside,
greet him and ask if the guest would like to return in some time.

The SOP for cleaning the guest room is given below.
Once the staff enters the room and starts the
housekeeping work, he must −
•Not use guest room linen as a door stopper or for
cleaning and dusting the room.
•Keep the guest room door open while working.
•Open the curtains and patio door.
•Assemble the furniture and place appropriately.

•Keep the vacuum cleaner and other cleaning
apparatus in the room.
•Check the type of bed.
•Take the bed linen of appropriate size and
place it on the nearest chair.
•Remove previous bedspread and place on
the chair.

Inspect the bed and pillows for their condition


as well as for any lost-and-found.


•In case of checkout room, deposit the left guest
items to the floor supervisor. If the room is still
occupied by the guest, place the item such that
it is safe as well as visible to the guest.
•Put soiled sheets and pillow covers in the soiled
linen cart of the trolley.

•Empty ashtrays and rubbish from the


guest room and bathroom dustbins
into the trash cart of the trolley.
•Pick up used glasses, mugs, ashtray,
trays, and place them on bathroom
platform.

•Spray the bathtub, basin, glasses, mugs, and


trays with cleaning liquid. Let them soak the
chemicals from the liquid. ( Close the door)
•Make the bed.(BEDMAKING SET UP)
•Start dusting from an extreme inside corner
of the room and work outwards.
•Clean wipe TV.

• The SOP for cleaning the guest bathroom is


given below.
•• Open bathroom ventilation.
•• Sweep the bathroom floor.
•• Scrub and finish the platform, bathtub, and
basin.
•• Scrub and finish the toilet bowl, rim, ring,
and hinge.
•• Wipe the mirror.

• • Clean bathroom walls using wet mop or


sponge.
•• Replace amenities such as toilet roll,
toilet block, shampoo, conditioners, and
moisturizers.
•• Replace bathroom mat.
•• Wipe down shower curtain working from
top to bottom with a dry cloth.

• ALWAYS REMEMBER

• It is the most important duty of the housekeeping staff to prepare


the guest room and the other places in the hotel so that the guest is
most comfortable.

• Due to this, the housekeeping staff places some necessary supplies


in the guest rooms and guest bathrooms.

The idea behind is, the guest need not pack and carry each and every
essential article while travelling.
As per the hotel policy, and the standard
of the room, the lists of these supplies
may change.

• The housekeeping staff needs to ensure


that those supplies are kept in
appropriate numbers and condition
while preparing room for guest check-in.
Categories of Guest Room Supplies
Guest Amenities- all the luxury items
provided by hotels to its guests with no extra
costs.
Mini Bar
• Mini Bar Supplies − It includes a small personal
refrigerator filled with a couple of soft drinks, alcoholic
drinks, soda, and ice cubes. It also involves a couple of
personal servings of salted peanuts, cashew nuts, or chips.
• Writing Desk Supplies − A writing pad, a pencil, an
eraser, promotional brochures, La carte menu, and the
short list of places of historical and commercial importance
in the city for guest’s reference.
Guest Expendables- guest supplies that are expected to
be used up or taken away by the guest on leaving the property

Turn down Service
Turn down Service
• Preparing the room for the night so that a guests
feels at home and can easily go to bed upon returning to his room.
• The turn-down service is always carried out between
five and nine P.M. just before the client returns for the night.

• The practice of folding back the blanket and sheet of the bed in the
evening, sometimes accompanied by putting a mint or chocolate, on a
pillow.

1.Find out if the guest is in the room.


2. Announce yourself before entering the guest
room.
3. If the guest opens the door, announce
yourself with a smile and tell the guest why you
are there.
4. Acknowledge what ever reply from the guest.
Turndown the bed: (2)
-Enter the room, empty dustbin and ashtrays.
-Remove the bedcover, fold it and place it in the luggage
rack drawer.
-Remove pillow from the luggage rack and place it on the
head of the bed.
-Spread the foot mat on the side of the bed.
-Always give turndown from the telephone side or inner
side of the bed.
-For double occupancy, both corner to be made.

-According to the hotel procedure place the


turndown amenities on the bed.
( Eg: Flower, Chocolate etc.)

-Place the Breakfast menu knob on the fold.


-Put on the bedside lamp.
Tidy the guest room: (4)
-Look around the room and straighten or tidy anything
that is out of order.
-If a room is messy it may require more extensive
cleaning.
-Remove any room service tray, dishes and move them to
the service pantry.
-Empty the trash cans and replace the wastebasket liners.
-Do a quick vacuum if required.
Tidy the bathroom (5)

-Neatly fold used towels.


-Wipe the vanity area if required.
-If required replace the bathing towel.
-Clear the dustbin if used.
Create a pleasant atmosphere (6)
-Turn on the bedside lamps.
-Close the drapes.
-Draw the curtains so that there is no light
coming from the corners or centre.
-Set the A/C temperature to what was set by
the guest.
-Double-check everything, lock the room and
leave the guest room.
Changing Trends in Hotel room Cleaning
• Wear your PPE ( facemask, hairnet and gloves)
• Disinfect door knob before entering by Spraying Solution
• Inspect the room and check Maintenance
• Open the curtains/Windows
• Collect all the rubbish like empty bottles, used Shampoo etc.
• Strip the bed, placed the Soiled Linen in the Plastic or any laundry bag and
sealed
• Disinfect all parts of the room including bed, furniture, curtains
• Make the bed according to the SOP
• Wipe with disinfecting solutions all surfaces like Closets, knobs,tv, tables etc
• Mop the floor, (partly at bed side area)Vacuum
necessary areas
• Clean the toilet as per SOP, Disinfect, Scrub all the
areas, walls, tiles etc, with cleaning solution
• Rinse with Hot water, wipe down and dry
• Place supplies as per SOP
• Mop the Floor (over all)
• Final Inspection of room, report if any damages or
defect inside the guest room
