Present Progressive Tense

The present progressive tense shows an


action which is happening at the moment of
speaking and writing.
Examples:
a. I am writing on the board right now.
b. Maria Fe is writing on the board now.
c. Maria Fe and Imee are writing on the board
now.

Past Progressive Tense

The past progressive tense shows:


1)an action which was occurring in the past
when another past action happened.
Examples:
a.I was writing on the board when our teacher
came.

coordinating
conjunctions
?
Coordinating conjunctions
are used to connect words,
phrases or clauses of equal
rank or kind.
FOR
 is used to show a cause
Examples:
1. I didn’t attend the meeting,
for I was busy with my chores.
2. I went to bed for I was feeling
exhausted.
AND
 is used to add ideas
 Examples:
1. Eating candies and chewing
gums are not allowed during
class hours.
2. Bea likes reading books and
watching movies.
NOR
 is used to distinguish
between negative clauses
Examples:
1. He doesn’t know me, nor does
he know my sister.
2. The problem is, you neither
asked nor listened.
BUT
 is used to contrast ideas
Examples:
1. Father bought potatoes, but
he forgot to buy garlic.
2. He was ill but he went to
work.
OR
 is used to show choices or
options
Examples:
1. Does she know you or Lorna?
2. Would you like to buy milk tea
or ice cream?
YET
 is used to contrast ideas
(same with but)
Examples:
1. He studied very hard, yet he
failed the test.
2. He has a lot of money, yet he
never buys anything.

 is used to show a result
Examples:
