Subject Improvement strategies
1. Profiling and tracking of retained and progressed learners according to levels
2. Learners should be given focused remediation activities that are informed by
data taken from baseline or topic test analysis. Activities to be inquiry based or
project based, led by worksheets developed by teachers. Use MST Training
material as possible guide.
3. Terminology test should be done weekly (Spelling and definitions and labelling)
4. Informal activities to include drilling of low and medium order questions-
Low order questioning which makes up 40% should be the central basis of
achievement for all learners (Every child should get marks here.
5. Usage of Past question papers – ensure standardisation of control & topic test
6. Utilisation Sasol Inzalo activities (Siyavula): particularly for investigations and
revision tasks
Subject improvement strategies cont…

• If the learner achieves below 40% for practical task, 2nd opportunity
must be given to rewrite after corrective teaching – but maximum
mark allocated recorded be 50% & indicated with the asterisk on the
recording sheet.
• GDE Online Platform Resources AND Incorporating ICT Resources
to augment practical work- Gizmo and PHET interactive simulations
and ensure that process skills are assessed.

• Charts and Vocabulary to be visible in classrooms

• Science environment with use of as many apparatus as possible.
