Synopsis

In the backwaters of steamy 1960s South Florida, investigative reporter Ward Jansen and his partner Yardley Acheman chase a sensational, career-making story. With the help of Ward’s younger brother Jack and sultry death-row groupie Charlotte Bless, the pair tries to prove violent swamp-dweller Hillary Van Wetter was framed for the murder of a corrupt local sheriff. The sleepy small town’s decades-old façade of Southern gentility peels back to reveal a quagmire of evil as dark as a Florida bayou.

Our DVD and Blu-ray sales estimates are based on weekly retail surveys, which we use to build a weekly market share estimate for each title we are tracking. The market share is converted into a weekly sales estimate based on industry reports on the overall size of the market, including reports published in Media Play News.

For example, if our weekly retail survey estimates that a particular title sold 1% of all units that week, and the industry reports sales of 1,500,000 units in total, we will estimate 15,000 units were sold of that title. The consumer spending estimate is based on the average sales price for the title in the retailers we survey.

We refine our estimates from week to week as more data becomes available. In particular, we adjust weekly sales figures for the quarter once the total market estimates are published by the Digital Entertainment Group. Figures will therefore fluctuate each week, and totals for individual titles can go up or down as we update our estimates.

Because sales figures are estimated based on sampling, they will be more accurate for higher-selling titles.

Full financial estimates for this film, including domestic and international box office, video sales, video rentals, TV and ancillary revenue are available through our research services. For more information, please contact us at research@the-numbers.com.

Weekend Estimates: Taken 2 Posts Top 3 October Opening

October 7th, 2012

After Hotel Transylvania's record-breaking September opening last week, Taken 2 will make its mark on the October record book this weekend, with Fox projecting a $50 million opening, most likely enough for a place in the top 3 October weekends. The film still has a shot at ousting Paranormal Activity 3 from the top of that list, although it would have to have a very strong Sunday to break the record. Regardless of that, we're looking at another up weekend and 2012 will pull further ahead of last year's pace. More...

Limited Releases: Under the Weather

October 4th, 2012

There are a large number of limited releases on this week's list, but very few have a serious shot at box office success. There are several films with casts with strong name recognition that were earning pre-release buzz, Butter, The Oranges, and The Paperboy, but none of them are earning strong enough reviews to suggest they will thrive in limited release. Fat Kid Rules the World might be the film with the best chance at mainstream success on this week's list, while Escape Fire might do well for a documentary. More...
