Synopsis

Born on a beach in Florida, she rides the Gulf Stream up towards the Arctic and ultimately swims around the entire North Atlantic across to Africa and back to the beach where she was born. But the odds are stacked against her; just one in ten thousand turtles survive the journey. She faces many hazards, her siblings are lost in the doldrums of the Sargasso Sea, she comes face to face with creatures of the deep and nearly dies at the hands of fishermen. She travels up north but she drifts from her life current, the Gulf Stream, into dangerously cold waters. When she finally reaches the Azores on the other side of the Atlantic, she sees the greatest celebration of life on the Earth as sperm whale and baitballs explode from the water. But deep and powerful changes are happening in the oceans - the fish are disappearing, sea levels are rising, the turtle's birthing beach could be washed away and bring a way of life to an end. Then her calling comes, she must return to her beach. When she finally reaches the shores of Florida, 25 years will have passed! Under a million stars, she crawls out of the sea to lay her own eggs and keeps the Turtles Journey alive. TURTLE: THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY has all the elements of a great epic: suspense, adventure, despair and hope.

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 15th, 2011

November 16th, 2011

It's a really soft week for releases. Granted, Harry Potter came out last week and it is likely still going to be selling quite well this week. But the best release of Tuesday, at least according to Amazon.com, is Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides on DVD. Normally this would be a huge release, but it came out on Blu-ray weeks ago. The same is true of the second best selling release, The Lion King. The most of the next several best selling releases are Blu-ray catalog titles. Granted, many are worth picking up, but it could still be a really slow week in terms of overall sales. That doesn't mean it is a slow week in terms of high quality releases. West Side Story is coming out on Blu-ray, My Fair Lady is also making its Blu-ray debut. There are several more catalogue titles getting a Blu-ray double-dip, like Evil Dead II: 25th Anniversary Edition, or the latest Blu-ray for Metropolis. TV on DVD is well represented with Farscape: The Complete Series (Blu-ray), Being Human: Season One on Blu-ray, and Awkward: Season One. Beginners on Blu-ray is also a Contender for Pick of the Week, as is Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume One: Blu-ray Ultimate Collector's Edition. In the end I went with Evil Dead II: 25th Anniversary Edition. It is a double-dip, but there are major improvements over the previous release, plus it is a bargain price at just $11, and given the number of prime releases coming out this week, a bargain price is certainly welcome. Weekend Estimates: Cars Off to Speedy Start

June 26th, 2011

Pixar continues its run as Hollywood's most successful production house this weekend with a 12th consecutive number one opening -- a run that dates back to its very first theatrical release, Toy Story back in November, 1995. Cars 2 will be middle of the pack as far as Pixar openings are concerned, but enjoys a big lead this weekend with an estimated $68 million, somewhat ahead of predictions going in to the weekend. In second place, Bad Teacher is estimated at $31 million, also better than expected, which should mean that this weekend ends up ahead of last year. More...

Will Limited Releases Go on an Incredible Journey?

June 24th, 2011

This week's list of limited releases is dominated by no less than six documentaries, including two opening in twenty or more theaters each. Conan O'Brien: Can't Stop has the most buzz going into the weekend, but I think in the end the non-documentary A Better Life has the best shot at success. More...
