There were almost as many new releases to reach the top 30 on the rental charts as there were on the sales chart this week, but there were some key differences, including the top spot. The number one rental of the week was Made of Honor, which generated about 20% more revenue than Speed Racer.

We have a big list this week with more than 50 releases. This includes very few top-notch, first run releases, but that weakness is counterbalanced by the strength in the TV on DVD department, including a few contenders for DVD Pick of the Week like Duckman - Season One & Two and Pushing Daisies - Season One on DVD or Blu-ray. If I were to choose just one release this week, it would be the former; however, I think the latter has a better chance at mainstream appeal. As I previously said, this is a huge list this week, so much so that it had to be split into two parts. Part one can be found here.

Sorry, wrong Khan. Mongol, which is a movie about Genghis Khan, opened in first place on the per theater chart with an average of $27,065 in five theaters, which gives it plenty of room to grow. The overall number one film, Kung Fu Panda, placed second with $14,642. Next up was the second place film on the overall box office charts, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, which made an average of $11,130 in each of its nearly 3500 theaters. The final film to cross the $10,000 mark was The Grocer's Son with $10,587 in its lone theater.

The $10,000 club was a little more crowded than expected with a few surprise entries, but there was no surprise on top. Not only did Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull top the overall box office chart, it also came in first place on the per theater average chart with $23,507 over the three-day weekend, and nearly $30,000 over four. The Edge of Heaven opened with $18,593 in one theater, which is made even more impressive since it opened on a Wednesday. War, Inc. opened to weak reviews, but managed a surprisingly strong per theater average of $17,668. The final film in the $10,000 club was A Jihad for Love with $10,519 over three days and $17,284 including its box office over Wednesday and Thursday.

The Visitor opened in first place on the Per Theater Chart with an average of $21,622 in 4 theaters, which bodes very well for this Friday's expansion. Young @ Heart scored second place with an average of $12,734 over the weekend and $15,558 from Wednesday to Sunday. The final film in the $10,000 club was Flight of the Red Balloon, which was down 32% to $11,959. The closest film to $10,000 that didn't make was Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour with $8,424, which is that film's best per theater average since its second week of release.

Like last week, there are only 11 movie that came out this week, however, more of them have real sites. But unlike last week, none of the site rises to the level of the Weekly Website Award. I would rate either The Visitor - Official Site or Smart People - Official Site as the best of the rest, but while both are effective, neither are award-worthy.

Only eight limited releases this week and only one of those, The Visitor, seems to have a legitimate shot at expanding enough to earn some mainstream success.
