A joint statement said Palestinians were "trapped, bombed and starved again" with supplies "piling up" at crossing points.

"The first was the shooting of an ambulance en route to evacuate casualties after a home was bombed in the al-Hashashin area."

As Ukrainian cities are bombed almost nightly by Russia, the idea of holding elections here might seem fanciful.

"When Israel resumed its attacks, it was almost identical to when they bombed incessantly when I was here a year ago," Dr Perlmutter says.

He noted that similar places providing internet services had been targeted and bombed, even in the so-called humanitarian zone.
