Mayor Matt Mahan’s proposal to jail people if they reject three offers of shelter is the latest salvo in an anti-encampment crusade sweeping the Bay Area.

Agency for International Development, Trump’s administration is denying financial support for life-saving medical interventions and access to clean water, food and shelter in countries ravaged by war, famine and natural disasters.

Hundreds of people have sought shelter by the side of the road, either because they are now homeless, or are too afraid to go back to their homes in case there are aftershocks.

Most of the children who were killed had been displaced and were sheltering in makeshift tents or damaged homes, it said.

Deputies arrived on the block around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and evacuated nearby residences or instructed neighbors to shelter in place.
