Fic Rec Friday

» MISBEGOTTEN by afterreign (@afterreign ) Rated T | 2.2k | Complete Summary: SCENE: It is a cool November evening in a quaint café located in Yongen-Jaya, Japan. There are no patrons. Only one person is present: AKIRA KURUSU. Or: A one-sided conversation that changes nothing for Goro and Akira. Set over one year after Akira accepts Maruki's deal.

Saw "bad ending post-canon" & "script format" in the tags and did a little gasp of "oh that's so smart". Love Goro's micro rebellion. Really brilliant application of the script format. Akira's dialogue being omitted is such a clever touch. After all, scripts are only for actors.

Jingzhe: Awakening of Insects Free Zine Release

This multifandom/original zine, featuring 40+ pages of art and writing, is all about bugs! Jīngzhé means "awakening of the hibernating insects," and it's the third solar term in the traditional Chinese calendar. It signifies the coming of spring, as well as the return of the bugs that love hiding in the corners of your ceilings.

This Jingzhe (March 5th, 2025), we hope to bring some of that spring warmth through an arthropod-themed zine full of the little critters that represent life on Earth.

Check it out here (read it as a two-page spread here) and be sure to support the artists and writers who were a part of this project :)

When he returns from his fight against an aggravated Dark Pit and an even more aggravated Wolf, Akira expects nothing out of the ordinary as far as the Smash House goes. (And yes, he can’t believe it’s actually called that.) Maybe he’ll find Lucario and Sheik meditating in the common area despite the noise level around them, their concentration unmatched. Or he’ll bump into a cluster of princesses, each murmuring behind gloved hands, as they sip their tea and stain the rims of porcelain cups with freshly applied lipstick. The typical shenanigans. Akira does not expect the Hylian waiting for him.

MISBEGOTTEN fandom: persona 5 pairing: shuake summary: A conversation that changes absolutely nothing for Goro and Akira. Set over one year after Akira accepts Maruki's deal. text preview:

SCENE: It is a cool November evening in a quaint café located in Yongen-Jaya, Japan. To the left, there is a creaky staircase leading upstairs, a few wooden cabinets, a fridge speckled with various magnets and papers, and a lit up television on mute. To the right, a door. At center stage, a polished bar top with red cushioned chairs in the front—the meeting ground for friends and strangers alike. An assortment of various items sit on the bar: a potted rice lily, a row of siphon coffee makers, a stainless percolator, white teapots, cups, puzzle books, a yellow, rotary phone, and a bulky cash register. A lampshade in assorted colors hangs from the ceiling. The place is like a time capsule of February 20XX with nearly everything in place but the atmosphere. There are no patrons. Only one person is present: AKIRA KURUSU.

Goro has questions. text preview:

“What is,” —and Goro pronounces it so painstakingly slow— “cháng… shòu miàn?” “They’re longevity noodles. Basically, they’re these uncut noodles that are fried or are in a bowl of soup. You’re supposed to eat them to prolong your life, I think?” “Like toshikoshi soba.” “Yeah, exactly.” As soon as Kurusu says that, he immediately appears crestfallen. “Oh my god. We should’ve gotten toshikoshi soba.”

Hello, fellow frog fans and zine readers! 🐸

Due to Twitter's changes, we have decided to remove our Tweets from our Twitter account @/AnurasRR to protect the words and works of our artists and writers. But no need to fret or croak! So long as this website does not make similar changes, you can find us and the zine at our home base (or home lily pad!) right here on Tumblr. Thank you for your understanding and support 💚

“You should have dodged.” A trembling fist threatens to suffocate the bouquet of red camellias he purchased at Rafflesia. He doesn’t know if camellias were the right choice or if he should’ve brought over a cup of coffee instead. Not like it matters when the recipient is too dead to receive such offerings, anyway.

[Akechi] Strange, isn’t it?
[Akechi] After everything… this is a constant.
What will you do?
> Ask him if you can take off his glove.
> Ask to hold his hand.
Out of nowhere, there’s a quiet, buzzing sensation. It’s not annoying as it sounds, but it’s imperceptibly there, like a mere whisper entangled in the wind, before coming to a crescendo until something—or everything maybe—clicks into place as it’s supposed to or should have all along, and— [Akira] Oh. Akira stops what he’s doing or whatever had been forcing his hand, leaving the rag he was using to clean on the bartop. He rolls an unpleasant crick from out of his neck and stands there in silence. He tugs at the fringe of his hair, unnerved by whatever just happened. At that moment, the door opens, the bell signaling someone’s entrance. Akira looks up to see Akechi walking in. [Akechi] Evening. [Akechi] … You’ve looked like you've seen a ghost.

So, she pushes this non-issue to the back of her mind like everything else, drowned out by a bubbly laugh, crinkling eyes, a wide, wide smile. As she tinkers with auburn bangs, she does not think about how her dad’s nose or her mom’s brows or her melancholy are reflected back at her. She does not think about how the person confined within the glass is someone she struggles not to be, let alone understand.
