i like editing things, writing things, and coding things. i blog about books, sff, ttrpgs, and nice images. i have a lot of fun looking closely at art to see what makes the gears go.

Someone was talking quietly of lanterns—but loud enough to light my way.

[ID: A painting in brilliant shades of deep blue and purple. It shows a horse being led by a human figure, who’s facing away from the viewer. The backdrop is a field of grass with a wooden fence, but it gradually fades into a starry sky. End ID.]

i do think that after getting sick twice and not having a flare triggered either time (unheard of) i can tentatively conclude that hrt is probably doing the good thing that scares me, ie, gradually improving my stomach consistently with other people’s reports about mitigation of chronic illnesses that are more common in women. this is scary bc i previously remodeled my brain to preclude any hope in this area in order to function as a person. thought about potentially not being an in-pain disaster all the time and ironically it fucking hurt!

current object of fascination is researchers who are concerned about the resources and processing power consumed by, for example, llms and are therefore exploring the solution of “run ai on their own collections of actual neurons.” moving gameplay to a different ethical field i suppose

i mostly plan to slip into the digital ether whenever this site breathes its last, but you can reach me at westingwind on discord. i’d be interested in learning about what wot discord servers are good—that’s the main vestige of fandom experience i’m interested in preserving, although i don’t imagine i’ll find the same congenial mix of uaf + newer fans

"Throughout the series, neither Jack nor Stephen makes any measurable progress on their deficiencies—such being the nature of the running gag. Instead, O’Brian has the two men fit themselves to one other’s blind spots. Eventually Jack automatically stands by to catch Stephen as he inevitably falls between the jolly-boat and the ship’s ladder; Stephen, in turn, can sense from miles away that Jack has given his power of attorney to a landshark."
