⭐GENDER EXPRESSION AND IDENTITY⭐

Things don't always line up the way it seems like they would or should. Clothes can be an expression, but also mean something different to everyone. Gender is an experience, not a fixed location.

Please check out Laneha House, the small press who edited and printed the anthology The BAYlies that this is included in!

Transcript:

"I consider myself trans masculine. Throughout my life I've swung between presenting more masculine and more feminine."

"It's not that I felt equally boy and girl, it was more like... [BOY MODE] [GIRL SUBROUTINE]"

"Sometimes dressing "as a boy" would just make my dysphoria worse."

"Excuse me, young lady!" [FAILURE]

"And sometimes dressing "as a girl" could enhance the boy feeling. (Maybe my wires got crossed or something...) It was kinda like it make me hyper aware of it."

"Gender identity doesn't always align with typical expectations of masculine or feminine gender expression. I just want to wear what makes me feel good!"

Gay transgender activist Lou Sullivan spent years researching the life of Jack Garland, an obscure early 20th century transgender man who evidently loved men. He rifled though archived newspapers and letters in local libraries for any scrap relevant to Jack, and finally managed to get the completed novel published only very shortly before his death by AIDS in 1990. The book made a single run from a now-defunct publishing company, so a very limited number of copies of the book exist today. Approximately 30 libraries carry it across the US and certain sellers have another handful of copies available for upwards of $200+ each. However, I could afford to shell out that $200, and I think Lou would want his book to be accessible to the modern trans population. So I've bought a copy and scanned it and converted the pages into a PDF,

I’m very excited to announce that my book Gender Queer: A Memoir is being released in hardcover for the first time this summer from Oni Press! This edition will feature a new cover, a new forward written by ND Stevenson @gingerhaze (Lumberjanes, She-Ra and the Princess of Power, Nimona) and an afterword written by me. The hardcover is available for pre-order; as always, I’d love if you’d buy a copy from a local indie bookstore or comic book shop, rather than Amazon, if you plan to purchase one.

Pride Month is rolling on and I hope y’all are having a good one! I just wanted to pop by and give everyone a heads up - some of those gay elders and historic folks that we praise are still around and still fighting, and Miss Major is one of ‘em. 42 years after Stonewall, she’s helping organize foundations to support transgender folks in their transitions, keep them housed and safe, AND she’s dealing with fighting off illness and raising a child on the side. Miss Major’s had this fundraiser up for a while - she could always use the help and we as a community need to take care of our own. Consider spreading this around or dropping a couple dollars if you can, I know it’ll be appreciated.

I have ADHD (with RSD), CPTSD, Chronic Depression and Anxiety. She has type 2 Diabetes. We're married, and we work together on creative projects! <3

I'm collecting questions NOW and we'll be putting them in a hat and reading them to each other that day. So even if you can't make it I'd LOVE to get some questions from ya. (just send me an ask or message, or leave a comment!) This talk WILL be recorded so if you can't make it you might still enjoy it later.

When I speak of our Transgender Ancestors, you must know there's an actual Roman Empress in that legacy.

She was a Syrian Priestess. She didn't give a **** about the Patriarchal Roman Elite/Establishment. Created Rome's first Women's Senate and they were NOT happy about it.

She loved sex workers, artists, and Wrestlers.

...and a bunch of "scholars" came out of the wood works attempting to diss her saga, and caution me from spreading "dangerous" information, so as not to inappropriately influence the youth.

Was Elagablus a flawless human being? No.
But She was a great heel. Excellent worker.
I wonder if this has anything to do with...

Loving watching this project come to life!!! ♥️🌹💪

everyone at hogwarts knows about harrys gay dads but some people hear about these two older gay men and for the first time in their lives feel seen. some people, like a certain fruity slytherin kid.

basically draco would have been much less of a twat if he had a positive gay influence in his life, or at the very least someone to tell him he doesnt have to listen to his dad

Wholesome content!!! 💕

My contribution to the Trans-Affirming Magical Care zine, that was put together by @alexlcombs

Featuring Percy coming out and Fred and George being Fred and George.

The full zine is still available as a PDF on Gumroad. Here’s a link. Profits are donated to help the trans community. Here’s a link with some more info and list of all contributors.

I'm in love with trans Percy from the comic @rxbbits did for our anthology Trans-Affirming Magical Care! 🌟💗💙💗🌟

What can I say?!  😳 I drew this comic about a time that I had fun being a huge dork with some of my best friends! Can anyone relate to feeling like Halloween is a time you can finally express yourself?

This is my contribution for the anthology I edited, Trans-Affirming Magical Care, a trans-themed Harry Potter anthology featuring works by 20 trans fans and allies. It’s available for sale as a perfect-bound book or a downloadable PDF, with all proceeds of the book going to charity: https://gum.co/transHPzine

I had so much fun filling this request for @hptransfest thank you!

Prompt: Trans boy or nonbinary Harry Potter has long hair. Likes: lightning scar that branches down his face like natural lightning, Indian!Harry

This piece is inspired by Naveen Bhat, a nonbinary artist, actor, and filmmaker based in California.

Naveen has a truly incredible story that has recently been made into a documentary film called Escaping Arga. In 2015, Naveen’s mother took them to Agra, India for a two-week vacation. During the second week, she told them that they were going to stay in Agra indefinitely to “fix” Naveen’s queerness. The documentary chronicles their experience of being illegally detained in India, battling their parents in and out of court, and seeking support from the Indian Supreme Court.

In addition to wanting to elevate their story, I thought they would make an adorable Harry, so I reached out to them before I finished the illustration. They were very nice and gave me permission to use them as a muse!

Here’s a quote from an interview with Naveen: “I would say please be safe. If possible, try to find friends that will love and accept you regardless of your gender identity and sexual orientation. If there is one thing I learnt from my experiences, it is that there are always multitudes of people who will love and support you. I had many people I didn’t even know coming to me with words of support online and in person. There is a great pressure that cisgender heterosexual people put on us to ‘come out of the closet’ and announce who we truly are, but they do not understand that our safety and security are at stake when we do come out. We need systemic change and we can’t do it alone. We need an active approach to allyship. ‘Ally’ is not a noun. It’s not an adjective. ‘Ally’ is a verb, and we must constantly work to dismantle systems of oppression and do everything we can to prevent another act of violence[...]. As queer people, we see ourselves getting killed and/or being devastated constantly. It’s in our movies, our TV shows, in books and on the news. Everywhere we turn, we see representations of ourselves being miserable. We are in pain. We are suffering. This needs to end now.”

Happy Trans Day of Visibility!

Today we begin the posting for HPTransFest2020! There will be three weeks of posting, with approximately three works per day. We’re looking at art and fic, long and short, from all HP Eras.

All kinds of support to the content creators are appreciated: kudos and comments on AO3, as well as likes and reblogs here on Tumblr. To the creators, we ask that you please remember not to divulge which work is yours until the official reveals.

Let’s make this Fest as big as possible! <3

I contributed an art piece to this exchange! Keep an eye out-- they are sharing a few works every day.
