I am once again begging you to get your hands on physical media and/or save your fave stuff OFFLINE.
I saw ur reblog on kill la kill and yeah!! Itβs weirdly good. I almost dropped it at the beginning bcs the fanservice was too much but I ended up sticking around. It not only deals w fascism but also incestuous abuse *not glorified* and patriarchy. I hope u enjoy it if you do end up watching it!!
Oooo, now I'm definitely adding it to the watch list! I avoided watching it up until now because of the fanservice, but it's great to hear there's a lot more substance to it than some anime fans would have you believe. Thanks for the rec!
It's actually crazy how Kill la Kill shouts at the top of its lungs how it's ABOUT FASCISM right from the get-go and this is like the least discussed aspect of the series, because people are much more interested in arguing about all the nudity. Honnouji Academy is a microcosm of a fascist state. Those who pledge loyalty to the regime and spread its influence are given rewards and a better standard of living, and all the while a lower class is maintained so the upper classes have someone to look down on, distracting them from the system's oppression. The show is not subtle at all about its intermingling of school systems and the military, or how the students take pride in being part of a greater whole. The very first scene of the first episode literally opens on a history lesson about Hitler. It's soooo not subtle.
Exactly!
If you read the fic, leave the kudos. Leave a comment too, if possible. Just do it. It takes a few seconds of your time and it means the world to the writer.
Sincerely, me who just got told that my writing feels like watching a blockbuster movie. I don't care if they were sincere or not, I'll be thinking about that comment for the rest of my life and every time I feel bad about my art, I'll remember that someone once liked it.
Finally posting my piece for the @opfluffzine!

"From now on, no matter what happens, the symbol on our left arm shall forever be the sign of our friendship!" β One Piece on Ice 2023
So today I watched this interview with the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast and they demonstrate the phenomenon "space ship acting"
and they all go
and it just cracks me up, ESPECIALLY Sir Patrick Stewart
I love when they just throw themselves across the room
Jonathon Frakes said that once during one of these scenes Patrick Stewart leaned over to him and said βIβm a Shakespearean trained actor you knowβ
βthe arts and sciences are completely separate fields that should be pitted against each otherβ the overlap of the arts and sciences make up our entire perceivable reality they r fucking on the couch
Art vs STEM is a lie created to stop us from turning on the real enemy: business and economics
Arts vs STEM is a lie, the computer that put us on the moon was a loom of woven wires, our space suits were made by hand sewing, we need chemistry to mix paint and we need biology to raise the sheep who make the wool we spin into yarn and crochet or knit or weave and the world is beautiful
Reblogging as a science enthusiast and an artist
I got yelled at by a Boomer astronaut (old white dude of course) because I gave a speech about rewriting STEM to STEAM, to include art.
He was so mad, and so wrong, that I just listened to him until he was done.
Then I said, "Well, some of the art I made inspired a scientist who stuck the landing on Mars, so."
I know you're thinking "and then everybody clapped" but it really happened. I just pulled the line from my speech, since it was on my mind.
To his credit, he tried to walk it back. He tried to say that arts and sciences are equally important but separate. While I furiously disagree with that, I let it go, because we both knew I was right.
THAT is when everybody clapped.
Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.
>:)c
May I present to you, nationalclothing.org?
It doesn't have everything, but it's still my first source when researching traditional clothing from other cultures.
There's also this resource on historical fashion: Claireβs Historical Fashion Reference & Resources
another addition as far as physical media goes there is the encyclopedia of national dress (that i still need to buy myself bc this kind of thing is super important to my sort of fantasy designing) but yes i do agree i wish there was EVEN MORE documentation on this
Reblogging to spread awareness
Silly thoughts about Ace purring when he feels safe in Shanks' arms and right after that Shanks starts purring too... idk if it's omegaverse or hybrids or whatever but IDK I JUST THOUGHT OF IT SUDDENLY AND IT'S SO CUUTE
This is totally omegaverse! And very very cute. Actually, this kind of scenario is, like, the epitome of why some people like omegaverse: open, visible vulnerability that can't be hidden. It's a trope that suits Ace very well (as someone who's full of vulnerabilities he wants to hide.)
I will write omegaverse for Shanks/Ace someday, I swear!
