i got started sometime in early-mid fall, but i committed to making it work with cardstock in january- it was originally meant to be a sizing test before construction with eva foam over the summer. then i realized how expensive thatd be, too much pressure for a form of craft ive never practiced. im pretty amazed with how its come together, even with the large seams! during that whole time when it was unpainted (started painting two weeks ago) there was no way to tell

how i'm handling my students using AI to write papers:

-don't accuse them on using AI from the get-go and instead ask them to informally define all the huge words that they used in their essay which i know they don't know the meaning of

-ask to see their original file where they "wrote" the essay. go to version history to see if it was just copy and pasted and then just edited a bit. i keep an eye out for the shit like "certainly! here's an essay about...."

-if they own up to it, they can re-do the assignment for a higher grade even if there will be an automatic penalty. if they don't, i process it like plagiarism and get my supervisor involved.

And this is much better than the immediate accusations. Some students have a good vocabulary. Stop accusing them of faking their essays without proof, and this is a good way to check.

Fellow students please stop using AI, go back to promising not to kill the school nerd if they do all your homework or something.

Julius and Ethel Rosenberg share one final kiss before execution on June 19, 1953.

Julius and Ethel were convicted of spying for the Soviet Union, specifically passing on information about American radar, sonar, jet propulsion engines and nuclear weapon designs. They became the first American civilians to be executed for espionage during the Cold War.

After a publication in the National Guardian, some Americans believed the Rosenbergs received too harsh of a punishment, or believed they were innocent - particularly Ethel. Protests against the execution of the Rosenbergs took place, with some believing that the harsh punishment was influenced by antisemitism - as they were both descended from Russian Jewish heritage.

Internationally, Western European capitals joined in protesting their execution ruling, with French existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre describing the circumstance as “a legal lynching”. Other notable people who openly protested the American government’s decision in the Rosenberg Case included: Albert Einstein, Jean Cocteau, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, Nelson Algren, Harold Uray, Bertolt Brecht and Dashiell Hammett. Uray and Einstein personally pled with then-US president Harry S. Truman to spare the lives of the Rosenbergs and pardon them unsuccessfully. Pope Pius XII implored the next president, Dwight D. Eisenhower with similar sentiments to spare the lives of Julius and Ethel, however the ruling of their execution remained resolute.

The Rosenbergs left behind two young sons [aged 6 and 10], who were orphaned after their executions and were adopted by communist activist Abel Meeropol and his wife, as no direct family members volunteered to take them in. Both of their sons maintain that their mother Ethel was innocent, and have sought exoneration on her behalf from multiple US presidents.

In 1983, Bob Dylan released a song called ‘Julius and Ethel’ and there are images of the Rosenbergs engraved on a memorial in Havana, Cuba.
