baffles me when people say hua cheng stalked xie lian for centuries lol.

the motherfucker didn't know where his precious beloved was! he couldn't stalk him if he wanted! and he doesnt btw.

the second hua cheng knew of xie lians location what did he do? he got all dressed up and immediately went to see him. he spent centuries searching for xie lian, not to follow from behind in secret, but to present himself to him in all his ghost king glory and woo the man

I’ve said this before but you read tgcf and you are like aww Xie Lian saved baby Hong Hong’er and it’s so sweet Hua Cheng fell in love with him and searched for him and gets protective over him. He’s so chivalrous truly a knight in bells booted armour.

Until you read the rest of the books and you realise that Hua Cheng is in fact not acting out of chivalry and must have been going out of his mind for 800 years because every time he and Xie Lian interacted he saw Xie Lian being in a situation and his go to plan was to basically always push the self destruct button and for extra measure throw himself on the chopping block in literal seconds.

Like all his over protectiveness isn’t so much about making Xie Lian a damsel in distress as it is instead a parent taking away all choking hazards and baby proofing the locks except the baby knows martial arts and could kill a man just by twitching his elbow yet he continues to use himself as target practise.

And he notably glowed bright. And then our little ghost fires genuine anger at being unable to do anything to help Xie Lian on the alter is what bore him into a full ghost? you know how fucked up that all was. I’m just saying.

“I wanna be barely hanging on, when you make me lose control” and this line repeats like 8 times and like. Montage-able.

seriously! This’d be fantastic and I just want it to exist in the world you don’t even need to credit me I’ll even go further into ideas if ever you need but just. Please. I have no money but this’d be so fantastic out in the world please.

Obsessed with Xie Lan as a character. Like I know everyone reads these books for the romance but the individual character concepts are hilarious.

Xie Lan is a prince. He eats poison on the reg. He’s forever stuck looking like he’s nineteen. He’s the oldest guy in the communication array. He knows kung fu. He dressed in drag to catch a ghost on two separate unrelated occasions. He’s the world greatest detective. He’s kind. He was forced into a trolley problem and chose to pull the lever. His cooking is awful to the point it could kill a god. He’s kind. He tried to give CPR to a ghost. He’s the unluckiest man alive. He’s been kicked out of heaven multiple times. He’s kind. He caught a kid from certain death and everyone was pissed at him forever about it. He regrets nothing but coming back to heaven.
