Everyone else got to make cool theories about Wally while I was at work and didn't have my phone 😔
Anyway, I was thinking some of the scars looked a bit like they'd been stitched up. And I made up some headcanons of my own. (Not to dismiss anyone else's ideas, because I loved seeing all the theories today! Especially the ones about Wally being in the circus!! That was so cool and I'm definitely a little jealous for not thinking of it myself, honestly.)
I'm specifically talking about two scars in particular. The ones that are a straight line with streaks running across them. I'm not saying these can only be from medical procedures, but I've worked in healthcare and healthcare-adjacent jobs for the vast majority of my work experience, and I usually have medical stuff in my brain. So my mind went to surgical procedures.
Furthermore, I'm not an expert on reptile/amphibian anatomy. But the scar on his right abdomen looks reasonably close to where a liver belongs on a human. I'd say gallbladder, maybe, but the gallbladder is pretty small and shouldn't require a massive incision... unless Hell's surgeons are just plain awful.
A liver transplant or biopsy might make sense?
Moving onto the smaller-ish one on his right. I'm thinking kidney? Placement is a little off, but my headcanon took over and said it's meant to be a kidney.
I'm torn between a few ideas. The darker one is that Wally has sold a kidney and a piece of his liver to make enough money to fund his endless business ventures. Wally is always down for some kind of cash grab. He's willing to work odd jobs to get by, but he clearly loves running his own business(es).
The somewhat lighter version of this is that he donated a kidney and/or part of his liver to a loved one (a spouse/child/parent/etc). He continues working any and every job he can to support them. Sometimes he gets enough to start his own business, but he may still have to resort to the occasional hourly job.
The underlying tone is different for each of those, but they have a common thread I think. An imp having to sell organs to survive mirrors that thing where people in the US donate blood/plasma as often as they can for whatever monetary value they can get in their area. (I know someone that got like a $20 e-gift card when he donated blood once, and I once had a neighbor donate plasma to help pay her bills.) We know imps don't get offered the chance to climb the ladder and make a better life for themselves.
And as for the second headcanon, Hell still doesn't really care about imps. It would make sense that Wally's kid/spouse/parent would go into organ failure because of a medical system that thinks of them as inferior and not worth care.
Not to end this post with a millennial "lol but idk tho" to absolve myself of any incorrect or even stupid thought processes, but. Y'know. Idk, I'm just letting my mind wander where it wants, do you feel me? Headcanons don't have to be right or wrong, right?
