Ohhh.... I've always thought of Derek being a very involved father, and he often asks help and advise from Melissa and Sheriff.
Peter and Cora would definitely dote on Eli and often brings him gifts much to Derek's dismay. Malia I think would have grown as a person and love Eli as family.
Derek would be a good father and the movie ending is not real.
