I've always seen Quentin Quire as truly cynical, broken, insecure yet MAGNIFICENT young mutant with a bi-curious tendency, but very much girl obsessed, young man (canon material is right there, he always TRYING to flirt with all the girls). He has so so much potential, that Logan sees himself in him and basically becomes his adoptive daddy because he is so troubled and powerful that he knows, left unchecked, he is a major problem.

It's sad and extremely funny, in romance he fails every single time. Just like his "daddy" too, but in a way less charismatic way.

Sophie Cuckoo rejected him, died, got resurrected by him after he spiraled and prefered to stay dead than be with him.

He kissed time displaced Jean Grey and got rejected. (These men love themselves some Jean Grey)

Tried to flirt with Laura Kinney and got rejected.

Tried to flirt with Illyana Rasputin and got rejected.

Gwenpool hated his guts, but there still was chemistry, so they hit it off... but then she breaks up with him via text message. Then when he is pinning over her and helping her understand she is a mutant, she just ignores his romantic advances completely lol

Phoebe Cuckoo ( yes, ANOTHER CUCKOO; get the twin sister if you can't get with the first choice I guess ) hides him from her sisters, not because she wants him only for herself, which actually is pretty manipulative to say... because she is embarassed of liking him and entertaining him in front of them. Even when she takes him to Jumbo Carnation, she says he was always great to her, but she had set it all up for a makeover session... something he did not ask for; even while Quentin was venting about his trauma, she already set this up without informing him.

She broke up with him because and let me paraphrase, he cares too much for her and that scares her, making Quentin spiral.

He is unlucky, or makes himself unlucky, he sabotages himself, because the only truly decent relationship, seeing eachother as equals and having mutual genuine interest and attraction, he fucks up. Idie.

Idie thought Quentin was temptation (gurl; stand up 🥴💀) because Hope told her to no matter what, stay away from him, which Idie obviously did not do; Quentin thought she was really attractive and approached her first. Idie and Quentin were friends, they had banter, they communicated openly, they were classmates, they got into trouble together, they saved eachother, they pushed eachother to be better. I dare even say that, after he dated her, he became more selfless and tried to help others against his better judgement. Like when he gave up the remnants of his phoenix force to save Jubilee and re-store her mutant powers.

And their interactions are all bittersweet, because there still are feelings there, undiscloused desires? Mayhaps.

This last one is the least incendiary relationship (when we don't take into account their possible futures) but the healthiest, because the relationship does not radicate in humiliation and denial, I'mma be honest.

Feel free to debate me.

I am really passionate about this.

It's interesting in retrospect. Quentin says here, nobody cares about him... It is a bunch of self-loathing crap because he has been dumped by Phoebe Cuckoo for showing he feels too many things for her at the moment.

But Idie Okonkwo, his ex-girlfriend, connects with his last memories, the memories of how he dies, and her first instict is to put her life in jeopardy to avenge him...

Their angst is so delicious, I wonder how Marvel just forgot about it like that...

In conclusion: He couldn't be more wrong. Even if it's one person, or two, maybe even three... he has people that care about him, Idie and Logan (maybe) the firsts in line.

Him feeling too much and being too much was never the problem for Idie either, it was his secretive nature.

That bleeding into the actual run is also fascinating, she feels petty, that he didn't try and save her from being exiled, but he didn't even know like that... it was made in private by Xavier and Magneto.

I wonder if they're going to address that she knows and SAW throu his memories what happened to him by the hands of Sabertooth | Victor Creed and how that bonds them, even stronger than when they were children.

They really care for eachother deeply, it's really wholesome. The love and appreciation for eachother, their understanding of eachother has everything to do with them trying to evolve, always.

Their characters evolve and get better, always, when they are around eachother. Everything you love about them is when they're together, they are better.

Something weird is up with Quintavius Quirinus Quire, he seems depressed, he is traumatized, surely but.... How did he come back to life? I want to see it being addressed.

How did the rest react to it?

I love Idie in Mackay's X-Men. I love that she's on the team because her experiences with Krakoa were so overwhelmingly negative and that her standing against Krakoa was the first time she really fully realized that she was Right and Justified after all those years of hating herself through her own need to defend herself and I love that Nekra, a woman who has literally the power of hate was one of the biggest catalysts for Idie to come to this point in her life. Nekra was one of the first people to really treat Idie like she wasn't either too young to act of her own volition or as a ticking time bomb. Nekra wants Idie to be able to live a life that isn't defined by the blood that trails behind her and all this leads to Idie being in the position to make sure that Scott as leader of this team doesn't lose the plot here. She's allowed to stand her ground for the first time and not wallow in self-hate or be restricted from doing the things she knows is right by those around her (This is something I loved about Idie and Illyana teaming up to help that girl who was a potential mutant because Illyana knows what it's like to be left behind, for different reasons yes but I love her willingness to help her because of it.)

the only beef is the code name but with how well she's written as a character I'm genuinely under the impression it was an overlooked decision that can be fixed when she gets a focus issue
