Behold one of my favorite screencaps

So many fun ways to read it, too. (And yes, I'm out and out saying Toothcup so move along if that bothers you.)

When you’re having a good time with your Best Bud ™ and your enemy walks in.

I love how they look so offended too like 'do you mind??'

I figured out some of my problem with reading. I was trying to force myself to read the book I’d been reading while in the hospital at the end of December. I was telling myself I wasn’t allowed to read anything else until I finished that book. There are a few problems with that!

1.) I’m currently trying to process the trauma of that entire experience, because oh boy, there’s trauma.

2.) That’s a stupid rule I made up. I am not required to finish one book before moving on to another.

3.) I am pressuring myself over something I want to enjoy.

Well, put that book back (it was Watership Down. I do intend to finish it at some point) and picked up a new one. I just got the third and final book in Max Brooks’ Minecraft trilogy thanks to @lilbuddybd, so I figured I should give reading another shot by starting with the second one. (Read the first one ages ago through Libby and enjoyed it immensely.)

I will just have to keep reminding myself that reading is for fun and there are no rules.

Fuck yeah man, read whatever you want! I’m currently reading three seperate books haha, one of which is The Iliad, which is an EXPERIENCE let me tell you!

I hope you enjoy it! Reading is supposed to be fun, if you’re not enjoying it, there’s nothing wrong with putting it down!

Thank you! Though, now I’m curious as to what the other two books you’re reading are.

As another big reader (who also multireads)... sometimes you have to give yourself permission to either DNF or set aside a book for a little while.

If there is one thing that I do think the tv-shows did Hiccup dirty on was to not give us more of his swordfighting. Because I've seen the fandom take that Hiccup is a bad swordfighter or can't hold his own in a fight float around from time to time, but he's not supposed to be bad, he's supposed to be great and the movies don't really put him in any scenarios in which he's in a swordfight.

In Httyd 2, his fight with Eret (which showed Hiccup's creativity in a fight) got scrapped in the storyboard stage (although voice acted lines do exist) and all we have to go on are when he frees Stormfly and when he spears his sword into the ground between Drago and his bullhook. (Neither of which are actual swordfighting)

I would make a comment about Httyd 3, but I don't remember that final fight between the Riders and the Northern Alliance well enough to do so. (Hiccstrid had the bedroom eyes and either Hiccup or Astrid took a guy's helmet off their head and threw it at another guy, I remember that, lol) (Which... taking a guy's helmet to throw it at a different guy's head is also creative and one of the details that I do love from the third movie)

Yeah, the Inferno is a tool, first and foremost, but I do think there's a reason why Hiccup was given a sword, of all things.

Only the tv-shows, specifically RttE, puts Hiccup into these swordfights, but there is really only one that is a proper swordfight and that is his fight with Viggo and Viggo beats him quite easily. With RoB, only hinting at a training being given because of the opener to 'Gem of a Different Color.' One swordfight that ended badly for him is all we have to go on. (Can his sparring match with Astrid even count?)

The only way you would know Hiccup is supposed to be this master swordsman is if you read the books. I know that's how I found out.

Agreed with this.

Let Hiccup use that sword! 👏

It’s why I put him in sword fights in fics! Because in my mind he’s definitely good at it!

Anonymous asked:

how do manatees even survive as a species if they're way too peaceful. somehow nothing wants to eat them. not gators or sharks or whales

it's quite simple, they're their ecosystem's version of a megafauna grazing mammal! they're simply too large for most predators to bother. they are, in fact, fucking huge.

see, manatees don't actually live out in the open ocean. they live in rivers, estuaries, and shallow seagrass bays like this:

so the thing is, large macropredator sharks and superpredators like killer whales don't go here! they stay out in open deep water, so they never really cross paths with manatees in the first place.

there ARE sharks here, but they're small! adult manatees are completely out of their prey size range, and they're more interested in fish anyway.

alligators do live here also, but even a very large alligator can't really dream of preying on an adult manatee! again, they're simply too big.

so, yeah. this is just another case of "this mammal is able to get away with being a gentle giant by simply growing too large for any predator in its area to touch" and I think that's beautiful.

it is past time we jettisoned the useless false dichotomy of introversion vs. extroversion and just accepted that everybody has a minimum amount of social interaction, failing which, they get really weird. and everybody has a maximum amount of social interaction, exceeding which, they get really weird. these levels are different for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and have no moral dimension. and that is all.

why would you come to this club and just shoot Myers & Briggs like this

they deserved it

“Appeal to a wider audience” is corporate lingo for “strip more themes from a piece of media so it’s safer and more sanitized for investors”

I struck a nerve in the billionaire fandom with this one

Okay but this is actually one of the most useful things you learn in creative writing workshops! Namely: Not all of the feedback you get is going to be useful! In fact, most of it isn’t! What you’re looking for are the people who vibe with your work and understand what you’re going for. Those are the people who can help you make your work better! But if you try to please everyone? Then you’re stripping out what makes your story uniquely yours. You’re stripping out what’s going to challenge and resonate with your audience. So don’t ever try to appeal to a wider audience! If you want those diehard fans who are going to follow your catalogue, let your work be weird. Lean into what you love about it. That’s what’s going to stick with your audience at the end of the day.
