I’m thinking a lot about Laurent crying. Like at the end of everything, the regent is dead, Damen is healed, the kingdom is secured and one night after a dinner or a meeting Laurent just cries. He lets himself feel and like maybe he’s crying of relief or finally letting himself grieve in a situation where he’s safe to do so. And then Damen comes in and he just knows and he holds him and it’s sweet.

In the end, it was the strawberry tart that broke him.

Laurent was never one to gloss over the things that affected him, and in the past ten years, a lot had happened. He’d watched his mother fade away, lost his father and Auguste, both ripped from him on the battlefield. He’d been left alone, vulnerable, with a man who would twist his idea of family so thoroughly that he feared he would never be able to fully unravel the thorns that wrapped around his heart. He fell in love with the man who caused him the most pain, and impaled himself on their past so that he might taste their future. His love for Damianos started as a wound that had to bleed, and bleed, until the bitterness finally drained out.

And yet, with each type of misery, each one more acute than the last, he seemed to cry less and less. The constant weeping of a boy losing his mother turned into waterfalls of sobs over his brother that left him dry-throated and hiccuping after each bout. These became unshed tears, hidden in a pillow that was not his own, which turned to empty-eyed stares into nothing when he was alone, and finally, to the cold, dry gaze that he became known for. No one remembered the tears but him.

By the time the Akielon slave was dumped at his feet, Laurent could not remember the last time he had cried. The tears had run out.

Don’t assume malice. Assume ignorance. Life is easier, the world is kinder, and you can educate. Actual malice is pretty rare, I find.

That’s said, never forget Fred Clark’s Law, either: “Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice.” There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice–at which there is simply no way to become that ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

Quick little rant

Why????? Do y’all think it’s okay?????? To ship Laurent with his brother???? When 1. Laurent was assaulted by his uncle when he was a child and 2. Laurent explicitly stated that he and Auguste would never do shit like that????? I just really can’t understand why the ship exists.

This post is about 2-3 months year old and there have been more Auguste/Laurent fics than ever before and I’m just ?????????? Did we not read the same books or do you think that Auguste would actually do shit like that?

Ruby Bridges was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.

This movie made me cry, I was so heart broken by how Ruby Bridges was treated! She was only 6, but was so strong. She is a very brave girl and she did not care what the white folks called her.

People are simply disgusting to minimize people by skin color!

Ruby you might not think you’re a hero… But to other people you are! You are A HERO and you are A PERSON WHO MADE AMERICA CHANGE!

Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her; because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home.

Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said “scared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us.” At her mother’s suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks.”

This is what I don’t fucking understand about people who act like racism isn’t a big issue anymore. MY mom went to a school that was still “whites only” and some of the teachers at mine had been there since the time it was a “blacks only” school, all of this shit was too recent to even be called “history.” It may as well have been fucking yesterday and a huge chunk of our CURRENT government consists of people old enough to have voted for or against changing any of this.

Boys cry. Boys are not weak for crying. Boys do not need to “suck it up” to prove their manliness. Crying is natural and everyone does it. Do not make boys feel weird about crying or make fun of them for it.
