I did a thing on my lunch break...

The only sounds in the War Room were the tap-tap of Riley's keystrokes and the clomp-clomp of Jack's angry footsteps.  His pacing was interrupted by the sudden ringing of his cell, but the caller wasn't the person he wanted to hear from.

"Hey, Nicky," Jack said, answering because his cousin would not stop calling if he didn't.  "This isn't a great ti-"

"You need to get to San Diego."  It was the most serious that Nick had ever sounded, and the hairs on the back of Jack's neck immediately stood at attention.  "Now."

"What's wrong?"

"It's Mac."

Jack's heart stuttered and then took off at a full sprint.  "Is he..."  He was afraid to ask the question.

"He's alive."

"But?"

"But he's unconscious."  There was activity in the background, sirens and indistinct voices.  "I've gotta go.  I'll fill you in when you get here."

"We'll be there in an hour."

Jack turned to look at the rest of his team.  "Mac's alive, but that's all I know.  We need to get to the jet and get to San Diego."

"The plane will be waiting when you get to the airstrip," Matty said.  "Call me when you have an update."

Jack, Riley, and Bozer took off running out of the War Room.

Nick sent an SDPD officer to meet them at the airport and take them directly to San Diego General.  He met them outside the hospital and gave Jack a bear hug.

"How is he?" were the first words out of Jack's mouth.

"Stable," Nick replied, not mincing words.  "Docs think he'll be okay."

"What happened?" Bozer couldn't stop himself from asking.

"Let's walk."  Nick led them inside and into an elevator.  "My team got a call this morning.  Motel housekeeping thought they found a body in a motel room on the outskirts of the city.  Medics were first on scene, found a faint pulse, loaded the John Doe up, and brought him here."

"Murdoc," Jack growled, slamming his fist down on the table.

Nick took his phone back and raised an eyebrow at Jack.  "Dare I ask?  Who's Murdoc?"

"An assassin," Jack replied, "that's taken a shine to Mac."

"And tried to kill us a few times," Riley added.  She got her laptop out of her bag, opened it, and started typing.  "My facial rec software will find him if he's anywhere near a camera.  Or has been recently."

Jack stood and slid his chair back under the conference table.  "Good work, Riley.  Let us know if you find anything."  Then he turned to Nick and said, "If that's all, I'd like to see Mac."

Bozer jumped up.  "Me too."

"I'll take you to him."  Nick stood and headed for the door.  "Riley, he's in room 512.  You can use the conference room as long as you need it."

She waved a thanks at him, too focused on her screen to say anything.

Jack snapped his fingers, three times in quick succession, and Mac's eyes darted to him.  "Hey, you with me?"

"Jack?"  Mac's voice broke as tremors shook his whole body.

"The one and only."  Slipping out of his coat, Jack carefully draped it over Mac's shoulders.  "Here, take this.  It's already warmed up for you and everything."

Out of the corner of his eye, Jack saw Nick slip out of the room.  Hopefully, he'd bring a nurse and some warmed blankets back in a few minutes.

Both side rails were up on Mac's bed, and Jack put down the one on his side so he could sit by Mac's hip. Mac wrapped his arms around his own body but shifted his legs to the side to give Jack space.  He wasn't ready to reach out yet, but he wanted Jack close.  That made Jack feel better.

"You want to talk about it?"  Jack didn't specify if he meant the experience or the dream, hoping that Mac would take the opening to talk about whichever he wanted.

Mac glanced at Bozer and then shook his head.

"Alright," Jack acquiesced for now.  Mac was still catching his breath, and he was probably still under the influence of whatever drugs Murdoc had used.  Even back when Murdoc had kidnapped Mac from his house and dosed him with the whatever awful drug that was, Mac had taken a little time to get his feet back under him.

Bozer cleared his throat and asked, "Do you need anything?  Water?  Are you hungry?"

Mac shook his head and slumped forward to put his face into his hands.  He had jackknifed up from the bed when he'd woken, so Jack took the controls and raised the head of the bed.

"Lean back, get comfortable," Jack suggested.

Mac followed the advice while pulling Jack's jacket more securely around himself.  "How long?"

"Three days and some change."

His eyes widened, and he grabbed Jack's arm.  "Murdoc!  It was Murdoc."

Jack winced as Mac's sudden panic and gently squeezed his wrist.  "We know.  Riley's got her face thing going."

"Okay," Mac replied, relaxing enough to lean back again but not letting go of Jack.  "How?  Is Nick investigating?"

Jack smiled softly.  Mac's brain had catalogued everyone in the room, even while he woke up disoriented.  "Yeah, Nick's on it.  Murdoc left his usual calling card."  Jack waved a hand toward the wall behind Mac's bed.  "Be seeing you soon."

Mac shuddered.

"I hate that man," Bozer muttered.

Jack and Mac agreed, but Nick returned before they could say anything else.  He'd brought a nurse and a stack of warmed blankets because he was a good man.  Jack's best cousin really, and he had a lot of them.

Mac was given a thorough once over while Jack sent Bozer to coordinate with Matty and help Riley track down Murdoc.  He and Nick needed some time alone to take Mac's statement and find out what had happened in that motel room.

The nurse gave them instructions to let Mac rest if he got tired and also to encourage him to hydrate with the cup of ice water that she left for him.

Once she left, Nick pulled out a recorder and set it on the tray table in front of Mac.  "This is Nick Stokes, Director of the San Diego Police Department Crime Lab, conducting a preliminary interview with Angus MacGyver.  Mr. MacGyver, please state your full name and consent for this interview."

Mac fidgeted with the cuffs of Jack's jacket sleeves, and then he smiled a little when his hand wandered into the pocket and found a stash of paperclips.  He put a few on the tray table and started bending one.  "Angus Henry MacGyver, but call me Mac.  I give consent for this interview."

"Thank you.  Also present is Jack Dalton at Mac's request." Nick had to explain Jack somehow and that made the most sense.

"Jack Wyatt Dalton, present and accounted for."

They were almost to the conference room when Mac stumbled and went on a coughing jag.

"Whoa," Jack spun around and got an arm around Mac's waist to keep him on his feet.  "You okay?"

Mac braced himself with one hand on the wall and nodded.  "Yeah," he said, breathlessly.  "Just a dry throat."

Groaning, Jack pulled Mac's arm over his shoulder and nudged him forward.  "You should still be in that bed."

"Now's not the time, Jack."

I did a thing on my lunch break...

@daltonsnightmare is just making me think obsessively about a csi/macgyver crossover challenge. I want to see Jack’s cousin Nick in there helping the team solve crime with science.

Ok so JUST SUPPOSE we did some kind of official challenge.

But like a one-topic challenge: MacGyver/CSI crossover.

Maybe with the specific goal of semi-long-fic, like aim for 10k or more.

Maybe use the Mac Whump community as a brainstorming zone because I, for one, will only manage to finish something if I can plague a bunch of people for specific ideas.

I guess it would sort of be a Mini Bang only idk if there's an art component, only if some of the artists want to reeeeally jump in. Which would be cool.

I've never actually done a Bang and half have an idea what i'm rambling on about, send help (and thoughts on this idea).

okay, so i need some help...

I need your help to figure out what episode these pictures are from. I may or may not be writing something with it and it would be helpful to know what happened in the episode.

@lailuhhh is right, it's S03E08 Revenge + Catacombs + Le Fantome. Here's the Fandom synopsis page, which has a lot of detail about the cold open and almost nothing about the episode, lol

This episode concluded The Ghost storyline and had Holland Roden (of Teen Wolf fame) as a guest star.

I grabbed a quick screenshot that almost matches the second image.

hey there :) just sliding into your inbox to ask if you have any other particular favorite CSI episodes aside from grave danger/stalker/gum drops? I got a little taste of Nick whump and now I'm fiending for more 👉👈

Nick just whumps so well, it gets under your skin. He's the youngest of like seven kids, the son of a judge and a lawyer and is always trying so hard to win everyone's approval and feeling like he's no one's favorite. It's like catnip to me but unfortunately, there's not enough of it. CSI friends, help me out, if one has already watched Stalker, Grave Danger, and Gum Drops is this really all that's left? 15 years, you'd think they could have given us a little more.

1x06 "Who Are You?" is a favorite episode of mine. When the ending leaves you feeling a little disappointed, I've got this missing scene

1x13 "Boom" is more of emotional whump with Nick's job on the line

10x23/11x01 Meat Jekyll/Shockwaves is the culmination of Season 10's serial killer arc but not the conclusion of that story. It is fantastic whump. I think it'll probably hit even without backstory

11x15 Targets of Obsession

There is a lot of emotional whump in 8x17/9x01 but warning for MCD. If you do watch these episodes, you should also watch 13x01 Karma to Burn Other non-whumpy episodes I enjoy: 1x08 Anonymous- friendly competition between Nick and Warrick 1x09 The Unfriendly Skies 3x02 The Accused is Entitled 3x10 High and Low 4x11 Eleven Angry Jurors 6x21 Rashomama 9x16 Turn Turn Turn 14x13 Boston Brakes 14x14 De Los Muertos (Nick's look in this episode is my inspiration for Jack's look in "Not on Jack's Watch)

Ted Danson joins the cast in season 12 and I really enjoy his character. I also feel like his presence allows Nick to come into his own as an investigator whereas there would also be a little more mentor/student to Nick and Grissom's relationship.

when you get an idea for a fic but you know you’re going to have to really take your time with it in order to properly capture all the little details and plot points and themes you want to convey, but also you’re an impatient bitch who wants to write out and read that fun story in your head right fuckin’ now

"Booker began speaking on the Senate floor at 7 p.m. Monday evening to protest President Donald Trump's policies.

At 7:19 p.m. on Tuesday, Booker broke Thurmond's record of 24 hours and 18 minutes, which he made while speaking against the Civil Rights Act of 1957, the first major civil rights bill since Reconstruction."

"Booker said that he decided to undertake the marathon speech because Democrats have a "responsibility" to "do something different" in the face of the unprecedented changes taking place in the first few months of Trump's second term as president.

"I've been hearing from people all over my state and indeed all over the nation calling upon folks in Congress to do more," Booker said in a video posted to X before taking to the floor. "To do things that recognize the urgency, the crisis of the moment."

Booker said he plans to speak for as long as he is "physically able to." He cannot sit or leave the Senate floor for a bathroom break; otherwise, he would lose his right to hold the floor. If he doesn't leave or sit down, no senator can stop him."
