When my brothers were younger I wanted to teach about misogynistic tropes in media without scaring them off by presenting the topic right out the gate as serious and aggressive and intimidating so I pointed out one day that movie dudes usually only ever have three motives- 1. Wife, 2. Daughter, 3. Dog.

And now whenever we watch a movie together and a dude character is about to reveal their angst backstory we take guesses if it’s gonna be 1, 2, or 3.

Which is specifically the most fun to do in bad B-list action movies because you can say “It’s a 1” as it starts and then ten minutes later the ham-fisted Macho Man Tough Guy quietly mentions being married once and you can put your hands in the air and go “AYYY IT WAS 1” like your team just scored a sportsball goal

"wait a single day" is the funniest fucking shit i'm sorry.

the 3ds price cut was SIX MONTHS after it came out. it had garbage sales the entire time. a single day will literally fucking do nothing. the people doing a boycott for a single day will be indistinguishable from people who were just busy that day. they dont care.

a boycott is "Until you do X, I will do Y". "Until the price of the console is lowered, i will not buy it".

it is not "i will not buy it for a day" or "i will never buy it" (<- important! a completely lost customer doesn't matter as much compared to someone you can potentially get sales from again. it's not a boycott it's just. not buying it. which is also valid and useful!!! but not exactly a boycott, but idk technically falls within the definition? someone else help me out here)

it is also not "You will do X", a boycott is a specific action (or inaction) on your part, you cannot just continue to consume but slightly differently and expect that to work

I find the language of a nintendo "boycott" very funny because. a lot of people just straight up cant afford it. it's not a boycott people are just completely unable to buy it in the first place. hell even with a price cut i'm pretty sure a lot of people just still wouldnt be in a good place financially to get it. i know i wouldnt.

also, nintendo is aware that if you raise prices less people will buy it. They dropped the price of the 3ds because it was a LOT less people buying it than expected. maybe this is a miscalculation on their part again, but other studios are getting success with 70 dollar videos games (no, nintendo isnt the first) so i'm not sure this price cut will happen? the Wii U sold like ass and they didn't do anything about it. remember this is the company which puts games on sale like. never, and never more than like 20%.

I don't want to be a doomer or whatever but like. idk what the point of this reblog is actually im just mad. i think everyone should pirate everything
