trying to phrase this well but i think emmrich’s character would be better served if they let him be wrong more? he’s extremely well-intentioned but also has been very isolated from the world others have had to deal with, and sometimes he says things that other characters SHOULD be allowed to point out are (however kindly meant!) condescending. it suffers a little from the overall tone sanitation where the game doesn’t quite consider the social differences between him and other characters in the way dragon age might have done previously

i’m thinking of a couple specific examples but like i just reached a bellara emmrich conversation in my replay where he’s like “you did x magical thing as well as some circle mages i know! self-trained mages usually don’t bother with this kind of theory!” and like i know he fully and genuinely means that positively. but it’s condescending! i would think? to my ear it’s a pretty uncomfortable thing to say, considering the social context of why a dalish mage would not usually have access to the academic resources (and time and safety to study them) that he and other human mages do. i actually think this makes sense as an aspect of his character, considering his background in the world as i said before, but an aspect that should be done intentionally. i did not like seeing it go unaddressed and bellara respond cheerfully to what he was saying like it was entirely flattering, making it obvious the writers didn’t recognise that as a problem at all. i feel like this conversation and both characters would have been better off if the writers saw that for what it was and bellara or at least rook got to call it out, even if just for an immediate apology and we move on

i can’t work out whether this post is about what i said it was about or if i just don’t like this scene. oh well

This is always one of my favorite shots every run and I wanted to expound on why that is because it runs into a lot of critique I see. Not trying to be snarky for a change this is way Veilguard positive and sincere. Rook is my favorite protagonist out of every BioWare game.

People get really bogged down in why the gods just let Rook and the gang go at multiple points in the story. It confused me too in D’meta’s crossing. I was really itching for a Big Hero Moment at Weisshaupt like the Inqusitor gets at Haven. Instead I got one of my favorite missions in a Dragon Age game.

And when I got there I saw this. This is why the Evanuris don’t care about Rook unless they have the dagger. Because why would they? They destroyed the Grey Wardens, an army, like it was nothing. It didn’t take them long at all. They rolled over a fortress that stood for over a thousand years. They don’t see Rook and the Veilguard as a threat because at this point in time, they’re not. Even if the Inquisitor had shown up with all of their power and connections this still would have been the result.

It’s why Rook is the protagonist. Rook represents the people of Thedas as they are now, and at the beginning of the game Rook is a nobody. Solas only acknowledges their existence because he’s forced to when they drop a statue on his head, and even then he only sees them as a pawn against the other Evanuris. Varric knows this about Solas. Varric knows who they’re fighting. It’s why Varric picked Rook.

People are missing the very heart of Veilguard’s story by ignoring who and what Rook is and it’s crazy because they’re such a great protagonist. Rook looks at a fucking storm and keeps fighting anyways. That’s the kind of person I want to be. The kind that sees the end of the world crashing down on them and keeps going because it’s the right thing to do.

"scurrying between the walls of the world" as Morrigan says. The gods treat people like vermin, and the Veilguard are doing what "vermin" do best: gnawing at the wires and fixtures of their support structures, acting like the mosquitos and no-see-ems that endlessly nip and drive one insane, until the gods *make mistakes*.

"Yet such is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere."

Elrond told y'all.

“The use of imaginative fiction is to deepen your understanding of your world, and your fellow men, and your own feelings, and your destiny.”― Ursula K. Le Guin, The Language of the Night: Essays on Fantasy and Science Fiction

“No real god need prove himself. Anyone who tries is mad or lying.” — Solas, Dragon Age: Inquisition

Chewing on the fact Davrin is writing his book to save other people's lives. Like he got those scars trying and failing the techniques in other bestiaries. At some point he decided his legacy as a Grey Warden wasn't just to sacrifice himself but to find a way to keep other people from getting killed from bad advice.

Veilguard Appreciation Week Day 3 - Hossberg Wetlands || Hope

I was only planning to do one post for @veilguard-appreciation-week but this morning I woke up with the sudden urge to draw the best little girl in Thedas - Mila!

The first time I played the Siege of Weisshaupt I was so terrified of doing something that was going to get her hurt or killed- I knew how Dragon Age games liked to do things, after all. The fact that she survives and gets to reunite with her father was so incredible to me- it was one of the first big notes in Veilguard that showed me the story was trying to say something different than the previous entries.

The whole Grey Wardens plotline is about rebuilding- rebuilding the order, rebuilding the world after the Blight, bringing the griffons back. And we all know Brona’s Bloom is an obvious symbol of that- the game makes it explicit. But I think Mila herself is also a significant part of that narrative- a little girl in the midst of the worst attack Weisshaupt has ever seen, using her bravery and determination to reunite with her father and SURVIVE. A little girl who represents the future of Thedas, the Wardens, Hossberg itself and she gets to thrive!!

In the idealized version of DA5 that exists in my head, she comes back…….maybe as a party member……..

Gaza without bread .. The sector's bakeries were closed all of the day .. The remaining flour is not enough for more than a week, and the sack of flour if its price is exceeded 60 dollars ..

I swear to you that Gaza is hungry, and the remaining food stocks are not enough for the maximum of more than ten days and will completely end .. What do you expect after that from a people who kill around the clock and now hunger?! God does not forgive those who brought us here, God does not forgive those who have the ability to stop this genocide and did not.

I am once more appealing for my friend Ayah! She has tried to keep a brave face this Eid and has bought new clothes for her small children to bring them joy, but in reality, she is wracked with anxiety over the future. The fundraiser that they are relying on is not getting any donations. The situation is incredibly dire.

Since their old fundraiser was shut down, their new fundraiser has only raised €3,219 out of their goal €50,000 in 4 months of campaigning. This is not nearly enough for anyone to live off of, let alone a whole family living through a genocide where the cost of living is skyrocketing due to the scarcity of food, medicine, and supplies.

Please let's make a difference for them this Eid. If you can donate and give hope back to their family, please do so. And keep sharing the fundraiser. Follow Ayah here @ayo0osh

Everyone (me included) understandably and rightfully gawks at Davrin’s chest. However, my favorite body part of Davrin is his nose! I have no other way to describe it other than that it’s so unapologetically black! I don’t see it being appreciated like it should be, so I wanted to do it in case no one else does. Ugh I love it! 😩😭
