Meet The Writer
Hi, I'm Bafflement and I'm a writer. :D I tend to post mostly RWBY writing at the moment, but that doesn't mean that's all I'm writing! My inbox is always open for requests, whether poetry or prose, it's all good practice!
Related to a previous theory that Oz might be a Schnee, but someone did an edit with Jaques Schnee sans moustache and, well...
Holy hells, you guys. What if I was on the right lines but slightly off. *What if he's the Schneebling's older brother*. Because a teenaged pregnancy would be hushed up, and Oz looks a LOT like Whitley and moustacheless Jaques both.
And considering how much Oz loathes Jaques? :(
But if we assume Willow had Winter at circa 26, having a kid at sixteen a decade earlier and giving him up would fit with RWBY, narrative-wise.
Oh NO.
Reblogging this one, too. It's related to the other one... still think I might be right.
Nobody actually knows where Ozpin came from originally, or his semblance beyond that it probably has something to do with time.
The last Ozma was the last king of Vale, so there would have been people IN the Vale looking out for the next Ozcarnation, probably in all four [or five] kingdoms. We know Oz was headmaster of Beacon. But we don't know if he was meant to be, and sometimes coloring can tell its own story.
What if he's from Atlas? Worse... we know he was painfully young when he died, but what if the silver hair actually IS genetic? Because his height would tend to indicate Atlas, or at least Mantle as a possible origin point.
Which other family in Atlas is noted for having silver hair, I wonder? Go on, I'll wait...
And with Ice Queen focusing on Weiss and the Schnee's, I do wonder if that might be explored. There's no statute of limitations on a kidnapping after all, and a disappeared uncle would probably explain Winter's and Weiss' actions...
Reblogging this one, and the related one. Because even if it's wrong, it's still right as far as my own fics go.
@maskyartist wanted another soft bit, so here you are. :P
"Hey, kid!" Harriet jerked the book Oz was buried in away from him just long enough to touch his forehead. "Tag, you're it!"
"I... what? I'm not involved in that game. I was reading."
"Eh. You are now." She shrugged. "Besides, it's a kids game. You're the youngest here. So. Tag, you're it."
"I'm not certain that's how that... hey!" Harriet had stolen his book.
"You'll get it back later. The general wanted you lot to relax. This is relaxing." She darted away as Oz, annoyed, got up.
"I find reading relaxing."
"Catch us if you can, brat!"
Oz sighed, scanning the empty room and pouting slightly for his lost reading time before giving it up as a bad job. He could hear a muffled giggling coming from somewhere a few rooms over so at least finding them would be fast?
It... was not, in fact, fast. The others, all being taller than him were also faster. At least unless he used his semblance. Now that? That might be a good idea...
Concentrating, he let out a breath as everything went still and silent around him. Moving through the frozen second, it was easy enough to find another player. Oh look, it was Clover, one of the ones who'd been insistant that as a 'little kid' he needed protecting, frozen in the act of leaving the room. He restarted time just long enough to tag him with a smirk, then, at least as far as Clover was concerned, blinked out of existence.
"Okay, guys... what the hell? Where did the kid come from? Where'd he go?" He sounded so very confused, too.
"What... that had to have been a semblance, right? But he's like... ten. Why does he even have one?"
Harriet scowled as the book in her hands disappeared, the kid giggling somewhere she couldn't see him. That was not the plan.
She returned to the room she'd found the kid in. Huh, not there. Ah well, she'd find him eventually...
Reblogging this, because it was sweet.
Happy storytelling saturday, too, Zac. :D What's your OC's favorite flavor? Favorite food, beverage... even just a smell?
Happy (late) STS, Bear! Thank you for the ask XD
I think I'll stick with Nate for this one. He really loves anything sweet. Especially chocolate. It's kind of a problem. He's always finding something to snack on lol.
Answered my question. :D Nate sounds adorable.
Day 2: Party... this one went in a rather different direction. Again. It's more bittersweet than celebratory, to warn you
It wasn’t really very much of a celebration, certainly not what anybody else would call a party. Three old men, huddled around a fire with glasses of a very expensive whiskey, toasting those that they’d lost. Nicholas, the children… so many people. They just collectively hoped that, wherever they were, they were having more fun than they were right now. Hoped that the children might be alive, somewhere. Reuben, Liliana, Wren, Winter… maybe they were safe, maybe they were happy? It was a nice thought, even if they could never be sure either way. Maybe they had people that loved them, out there in the world? They loved them, too, though. Their missing children, all the lost chances. Yes, all three of them had others, but nothing would ever really fill the hole that their youngest had left behind. None of their living children had managed to make it, this year. They were all too busy with their own celebrations. Prism, with his mass of children, happy in Vale. Willow, in her mausoleum of a house with a man they all collectively hated… but if Jacques made her happy, made her children happy, it wasn’t something they dared try to fight. Lark and Swan, each with their own lives revolving around their hereditary military company, the Winchester name surely flourishing into the next generation. And James, so focussed on his career that he didn’t have a family, barely had friends. All of them seemed content enough, but… what of the youngest, those they’d lost? Each of the three men raised a glass in silent toast to them. They may not be children anymore, but they’d always be theirs.

Because I'd forgotten just how *good* this one is...
Hey, Bear! Happy (late) FNDM Friday!!! What's your favorite semblance in the show? Why?
Ooh, now that's a hard one. But probably Jaune's, honestly? It's so versatile... and incredibly useful in a fight.
Even just to buff other people's.
That or Qrow's, for the sheer tragedy of it. :( That poor man, but he somehow makes it work for him.
Something shorter for now, since a few of the next posts will be very, very long. And may be on AO3, we'll see.
@zacs-of-rwby you might quite like this one. [Titan Academy is the primary huntsman academy in Atlas, in this AU.]
Copal slammed their scroll down hard enough that it bounced, snarling to themselves. It wasn’t often that General Ironwood pulled rank, especially not at Titan, but when he did, he did it in spades. Two new students, ordering them to take them without even an entrance exam, and what was worse? One of them was underage. It was almost unheard of, for a student to be younger than their normal cut-off of thirteen. Oh, it had happened before, but only if the child was truly extraordinary. Which would be obvious… if they took the entrance exams.
Reblogging this again, it's more important, in retrospect, than I'd realised.
I GOT A FUCKING RAISE THE POTATO WORKED WTF
This potato works. Every. Fucking. Time.
Reblogging because it’s a damn potato and I want to encourage people to assume potatoes are magical.
You mean potatoes aren't magical? /s
Let’s do this, I’ll give some other stories in the universe of The Tales of Selcouth, and you guys can ask me about the premises of them! And then decide if you want to know more!
The Tales of Selcouth: The Two Immortals

Going through this and cataloguing everything I've written on Tumblr made me realise that there are several... holes. Things I thought I'd written that I hadn't. So, this is the first attempt at fixing that.
Because Oscar needs a weapon, too... Oscar bounced slightly next to Tip as they headed down to the armory in Atlas. Tip rather regretted that they'd left it quite this long to get Oscar a weapon truly customised to him, but the circumstances had meant that that had been impossible until now.

Reblogging this one again, too. Because weapons and important.
Cardin was expelled for what he did to Tip. but that wasn't the end of the consequences. And what's that, foreshadowing as to a certain secret? xD
“And just what did you think you were doing?” Lark Winchester’s voice was almost calm, very nearly level, but that just seemed to make his stupid nephew shrink further. He’d hoped, once, that Cardin might meet Winter, might like him. He’d never imagined that anything this bad could happen.
Reblogging this one, it turned out more important than I thought it would...
Reblogging this again, not dead, just got sick again. :(
Re-reblogged.
once upon a time and a time and a time
I LOVE this. :O
Happy STS!
What are your inspirations, character-wise?
Happy (belated) STS, bestie!!!
Truly, my characters are just collages and cobbled together messes of real people in my life as well as other characters that I adore. It can be a little hard to piece them together sometimes, but it always gives me a solid foundation and reference to go back to when I am working out their voice/mannerisms/what makes them unique.
Thank you for the ask, Bear!
Huh, that's an amazing way of doing things!
Thank you for the answer!
Hey Bear XD Happy STS my friend! What is the main setting of your WIP? How important is it to the story?
Heya Zac, thanks for the question! I'm more awake for this one. :D I'd ask which WIP, but the Deaged! AU and it's satellites will always be the main one.
[I'm so sorry, I managed to miss this and I have no idea how long it's been in my inbox.]
As said, the Tipverse [Or the Deaged! AU, whichever you prefer to call it] is my main WIP. always. :D It's set in a very similar setting to RWBY canon, but things go sideways when Cinder tries to kill Oz, as you know. It's the same time period as canon and a lot is very similar, but it's the differences that are the most important thing!
This Oz is younger, physically... younger than Oscar, too, actually. There's enough complications surrounding the setting and Oz's own history that some of it, especially the Atlas arc, ends up being far, far different.
