Thank you!!! I've been telling this for years!! Eversince this meme came along, I've been trying to explain to people that this is just a rebranding of misogyny and everybody participating in this trend just contributes to harmful stereotypes. Same goes for "I don't need to know math I'm gay" or "I'm too gay for sports" no the fuck you are not you can just say you are bad at math or you don't like sports you don't have to fucking feed into bigotry

Oh, good point, I have not seen enough people link the girl math and "too gay for math" jokes. I made the mistake of accepting the premise that "too gay for math" jokes were harmless at first, something that upset me, yes, but in a way that was personal. But seeing "girl math" get popular made it clear to me how much this is not just a me problem. You can't have harmless silliness when your joke is indistinguishable from the systemic harm and erasure to marginalized people in these fields. Whether that is mathematics or sports or whatever other field it is next. Like it or not, your internal sense of irony is not the lens through which your speech is viewed.

Also, "it's ironic!" does not mean there can't be real subconscious bias behind these statements. It wouldn't hurt for people to examine that.
