Lay Me to Rest- DCxDP Prompt
Warning: Blood and gore

There has been a series of murders across the country. Each death was varied and self-inflicted. At first, they all seemed like suicide but each had a strange range of symptoms before death.

Sudden paranoia, incoherent mumbling, screaming or yelling, going in and out of their homes sporadically, random fixations, and finally self-harm.

The victims were teachers, parents, businessmen, truckers, and even a crime novelist. All unrelated and in different states.

Each victim didn't seem to have a connection until an investigation discovered that each one had been an active serial killer. The body counts ranged from as little as 5 to as much as 23. The killer was named the Serial Serial Killer which wasn't creative but it was catchy. Some called them the Angel of Vengeance but most thought it was cringy and overdramatic. Many people didn't want them to be caught but others hotly debated letting a killer dispense justice when their crusade could easily turn into them killing people for innocuous things.

The police were still questioning whether this killer even existed. One thing was clear, there was a trail and it led straight to Gotham. A goldmine for them. Naturally, Batman had gotten a hold on the case and began an investigation.

The biggest question was how the killer found their victims and how they knew that they were killers.

The answer was obvious. They didn't need to figure it out. They just needed to wait. Why just in the effort to investigate when a serial killer tries to convince you to leave with them? So bars are the obvious place. But that's shaky at best since there is a period of torment that takes place that allows the victims to return home. The killer doesn't care if the victims could call the police, perhaps because they know their victim won't.

Bruce started to build a profile. He saw a pattern here. Each of the victims had a preference for their victims as well. They targeted young people, mainly boys. Odds are the Serial Serial Killer matched that description or age range. So bars weren't the hunting ground. So parks were more likely to go unnoticed and boys tended to hang out there longer after dark.

The killer was more than likely a victim himself so he may have a few scars but probably not noticeable enough that his would-be assailants would be turned off. There is no ignoring the predatory nature of the victims. Each killed children for gratification in some form. It's not that the boy is attractive but he probably has traits that the victims found attractive in children. So babyfaced, short, native, and polite.

There was much else Bruce could get. There was nothing concrete and he still didn't understand the method that was used. So far this was guesswork.

It wasn't until a few weeks later while he tracking another killer that he found his answer.

Dr.Kinder a Biologist by day and a killer who experiments on his victims at night had picked up a promising new lab rat a week ago. He had intended to slowly dissect the boy. He had gotten so used to the screams he stopped using anesthetics besides he wanted to see how the fear response caused the organs to shift.

To his surprise the boy didn't fight, in fact he seemed to jump to the table and say he didn't need restraints. Disturbing. But he was restrained anyways.

As the doctor cut him open the boy didn't react, only humming to himself as he watched the doctor.

"What are you hoping to find?" He asked. "I'm getting bored and this bearly hurts."

The boy annoyingly never stopped talking and never missed a chance to ruin the moment. There were never any screams or cries but incessant talking.

Dr.Kinder found the boy disturbing so he simply took an axe and chopped the boy into pieces. Not once did he make a sound. The doctor thought it was over but the next day the boy was back. He sat on the autopsy table kicking his feet in nothing but his bare skin.

"What the hell are you?" The doctor gasped in horror.

"I'm bored. Play with me again." The boy purred.

Bile crawled up his throat as the doctor restained this...thing again.

This time the boy spoke differently.

"You cut me up last time. Did you do that to the last boy. After you...you know." A sick grin spread across his cheeks.

The doctor cut open his neck this time and let him bleed out.

Everyday he came back and every day the doctor killed him until the time between his death got shorter and shorter. The days began to blur and he had no idea how long he had been doing this. But that thing kept talkimg to him.

Dr.Kinder stared down at his desk at the papers trying to think of anything but-

"I wonder what people would think about what you've done. You're a disgusting and depraved man doctor. Look at what you've done to me." The sing-song voice of that demon called out.

He could feel those blood-soaked arms wrapped around his neck.

He flinch as he pushed the thing away.

"Oh, are you going to beat me or stab me this time? Ooo, or are you going to put me through the woodchipper again?" The demon asked as the doctor wrapped his hands around his throat.

He just kept squeezing until the boy went limp. It never ends. The blood never goes away. It covered every surface of the room. Dripping, conjugating, and spreading into every corner. Whenever he turned his head he could see body parts spread across the room in the pools of blood he could they the faces of the others that he had killed. Each face wretched in agony.

"You hold on better than the others. I've been eaten, torched, and disemboweled before but after coming back a few times they usually end it after a few words. But every time they don't feel guilt. They just don't want to face consequences." The boy said. "Do you even remember my name? The one I told you when you picked me up on the side of the road or was I just another body to use and discard? I used the name of your first victim. I hoped you'd notice."

The doctor knew he couldn't kill the boy but he could end himself. He had tried it once but just like the kid he came back without a scratch.

"Not yet. This is your life now. Come on, let's taste death together. Again and again and again and again and-" he repeated over and over.

This was hell. This was his hell.

But it came to an end eventually. Dr.Kinder put an end to himself in a gruesome display.

Batman had only caught the tail end as he faced a young boy standing an a pool of blood.

****

"Yeah, that thing is like a worse version of a revenant. Doesn't really have a name yet to describe it. It's undead for sure. You kill it and it just comes back." Constantine said "Why did you bring it here?"

After a long bath and some new clothes, the kid looked normal as played on a phone given to him.

"Look, I didn't know what else to do." Bruce explained.

"You leave it alone!" Constantine said exasperated "Look they are harmless to anything they don't bear a grudge towards. Think of it as a force of nature." Constantine said.

"I just want to know how to stop him." Bruce said.

"Well you can't kill it but you can't bring him back entirely. You can just soothe it 'till it stops targeting its victims. It must have died pretty gruesomely to go to these lengths. You need to find where it died and lay it to rest. Properly." Constantine sighed knowing that appeasing this soul would be more than just difficult.

"Danny, come on. Let's go." Bruced said putting a hand on the boy's head as Danny stood up to leave.

"Okay. Bye!" Danny waved to Constantine.

Okay, hear me out!! VLAD!

Vlad has always been able to do nasty things to satiate his obsessions and wants, he tried kidnapping and trapping Danny and Maddie. Hell, he cloned Danny and tortured him in the process! It is canon that he willingly risked earth in the finale in order to get what he wants. And he wants Maddie more than anything.

But he can't have her...not in the traditional way... but then here comes Danny.

Danny, who grows to look like his mom more and more everyday. He gets her height, her lithe form, her sarcasm, her smarts. Sometimes, Vlad thinks that with a few tweaks, Danny would be the spitting image of his mother. And Vlad gets more obsessed, fixated on that point. He reasons that it technically is Maddie since Danny has her DNA, then those tweaks come to mind again. What if he just did this, a slight hair cut and a dye job, and he'd have Maddie's hair! Then it escalates. It escalates until there is little left of Danny.

ok when you mentioned Vlad an idea came to me but not at all the same as yours:

Vlad cloned Danny again but this time the clone is screwed up in a new way: his body is functional, he clearly lives/ n It's not an empty envelope (like what will be given to Dan) but his personality.... is problematic. But Vlad doesn't care about that, no the problem for Vlad is that his new Danny can't seem to transform into a ghost form, even though they have access to these powers without much problem, he is stuck in human form.

Vlad tries to correct this. with scalpels and other unethical experiments but continues to call the clone by sweet name as well as Danny

thus the Danny clone assimilated that: Vlad behavior is normal behavior to have.

when the real Danny saves him by punching Vlad and giving poorly worded advice then letting him go explore the world like he did for Dani...

New Danny then integrates that it is normal to take revenge if he is harmed and that as Danny he must in some way save people... but his sense of normality is more than messed up and the absence of guidance he ended up being the killer killer who relaxes in Gotham, enjoying the latter's atmosphere and its ghostly nature so as not to have eaten.

ho and he apparently got the Fenton luck as a bonus which means he doesn't really hunt, he just waits for trouble by vibrating quietly in his corners

Thats so creepy. I love him already.

I'm going to call him Davey.

Little guy has probably never been on his own and trying to do what feels natural to him. Which would be waiting for someone like Vlad to tell him what to do.

In a twisted way, he loves Vlad but only because Vald is all he knows. He unintentionally attracts adults like Vlad who hurt kids because he feels at home there. When bad people lure him in they call him with sweet words and praise that remind him of his creator. He plays with them until they are all used up and dead because he's a child who doesn't really understand what he's doing.

He likely followed Bruce because he smelled like dead children (Jason and Damian) and thought he found someone new to play with. But Bruce doesn't try to kill him, or hurt him. He didn't even try to physically touch him. All of this is new and weird.

He also becomes an Ipad kid later.

He also becomes an Ipad kid later.

Now all I can imagine is him doing all those weird poses that kids do when they're playing with their iPads. I don't want him to be one of those gross smelly sticky kids that smear everything they have on their hands on the screens 😭

Also what are the reactions of the batkids to Davey?! Like are they weirded out? Some of them are definitely concerned and curious. But what about Damian and Jason(the aforementioned dead children) are they hostile, ready to brawl like the other ghosts with Danny, or are they just wary of him being another loa spy?

Kinda wanna see Dani and Danny's reaction to Davey tho. Like Danny fully thought that he's just going to travel around the world like Dani and he did travel but with the additional adventure of tormenting child murderers/abusers/rapists(I love Davey for that! Good for him!!).

Would Danny blame himself for leaving Davey and letting him go and assuming that he'll be like Dani and then Dani finds out that she got another clone brother but this one is a little more unhinged and wouldn't hesitate on tormenting criminals to their deaths. What would their meeting be like? Is it angsty, fluffy, a perfect mix of both or just a plain mess? Idk...

Bringing back another black-haired and blue-eyed boy was met with a round of sighs but acceptance.

Little Davey looked only a few years younger than Damian. 12 years old at the most. The boy was pale, slightly gaunt, with large eyes and matted black hair.

Davey was strange. He didn't understand social cues or how to exist in public. He knew next to nothing about how the world works or how to stay safe. Cars were familiar enough but only because he would be dragged into them or put in the trunk. He was very excited when he was allowed to touch the buttons.

Damian wasn't ready to be an older brother especially not to something like that thing. Davey felt wrong to Damian. Something that shouldn't exist.

Damian was proved right when the boy looked him right in the eyes and said.

"Play with me." He pulled Damian's drawn sword to his neck. "Cut me open!"

Bruce snatched Davey back from the blade and told Damian to put it away. Davey was forbidden from entering the Batcave and any dangerous items.

Damian was freaked out. Davey was too mentally disturbed to be here. However, the revenant is fond of his older brother and follows him around and begs him to play. Damian has to try pawning him off on the others but Davey is like glue.

Then there was food.

Davey didn't understand food. He had been fed a mostly liquid diet for his short life by Vlad. The liquid was made from nutrients and ectoplasm. After escaping Davey didn't know what food looked like. When strangers came up to him offering candy he took it. So he learned that candy was also food. But that wasn't enough to make him full, so he resorted to the closest form of ectoplasm he could find. Human blood. He learned that he could drink it for sustenance.

Feeding Davey for the first time was...sad. He was like a toddler learning what different flavors were. Sour, salty, and savory. All so new a wonderful.

Tim let him him have a sip of soda and Davey was hooked.

Tim is also banned from giving food to Davey after letting him try coffee and making him sick.

Stephanie is also banned after giving him spicy chips. Mostly because of Davey's need to harm himself caused him to eat himself sick.

Davey's issues are more than concerning. Dick was supposed to watch him while Bruce was investigating the last suicide linked to Davey. Davey didn't know how to talk to someone not trying to kill him. But Dick felt like him. The blood on his hands was the same as his. But the lingering scent of another pulled Davey elsewhere.

The other revenant.

One that felt a similar drive.

Bruce debated if Jason should meet Davey. It could help them both but it could easily make them worse. Davey was impressionable, to say the least, and Jason didn't need to bring someone else on his crusade.

Jason wouldn't use Davey like that but Davey would surely agree to it.

But Davey wasn't like Jason. He didn't kill. He gets killed. He lets himself be tortured until he drives others insane. Jason could never use him to kill the Joker. In fact, the clown must never know of Davey's powers or Davey might find his eternal playmate.

But it doesn't change that Jason and Davey will meet.

"Yeah, he's coming with me," Jason said picking up the boy under one arm.

"You can't just take him!" Dick yelled

"Do you guys think you can control him? That he'll stop wandering around looking for more targets. He can't and he won't. It's a part of him. At least I can get to his targets before they can kill him first. If he can sniff out any predator then he can use his powers for good." Jason said .

"He's not like us. He's a child and mentally he isn't ready for the outside world yet. I love you but I can't let you drag him into your mess." Dick said.

"And what? Fix him? He is a revenant and he's going to seek out his obsession. In a place like Gotham, he will find another target. He needs it." Jason barked.

There is no clear answer. They could try to preserve any innocence Davey had left but that same innocence led him to being tortured. They could also tell him what he's actually doing and he'll then do it on purpose knowingly killing others. What was better for him mentally because they all knew by this point Davey would strike again? It's his nature.

The only answer they had right now was finding where Davey died originally and calming his spirit. If they could find his original killer or make a grave for him then he'd settle.

Constantine was firm that Davey couldn't leave even if they calmed his soul. His life and death were too traumatic for him to disappear.

On the other side of the country, Danny had a bad feeling. He knew he should leave his clones to themselves and wait for them to come home on their own but his most recent clone brother bothered him. He wasn't like Elle at all. He was...odd. Danny decided not to worry too much since the clone was stable.

But then Vlad talked non-stop about losing his "precious boy". The word made him feel sick. Then there was the first death. Some offender that lived on the outskirts of town ended their life. The only reason anyone talked about it was the state he was found in. Blood was everywhere more blood than a single human body had and unknown chunks of meat scattered the ground.

Danny brushed it off but more started happening and they led a bloody trail.

Of course, Danny knew something was up. This all lined up perfectly with the clone's escape. But at the same time, all the victims were serial child murderers. It was hard to feel bad about it. He had found his obsession and it was such a bad one.

But Danny was still worried. A bit of investigation wouldn't hurt.

(This all came out as a stream of consciousness)

ok, several ideas that I don't yet know how to organize:

*Danny can't really leave his town but on the other hand Dani is already traveling. Dani takes finding the new clone/cousin as a part of "Where's Waldo?" life size

*Davey is a sort of lightning rod for getting kidnapped (literally next to a Wayne in public, at a gala etc) or other crime (found by chance in the middle of a shootout when lost at the mall, random assault, wandering by chance in a place trapped by bombs while walking, hostage situation ect)

*he's also incredibly easy to lose, even with all the bat concentration . This ultimately adds to his supernatural abilities

*luckily for the batfam it is also ok to wear trackers H24 (Davey doesn't know what a tracker is but doesn't care enough to ask)

*Davey releases interference when he uses his ghost abilities, usually his regeneration. The batfam quickly learns to rush to its location when it happens

* The first time Davey sees dialysis he seems to become extremely happy then jealous: Davey associates dialysis= "game" with Vlad or just after a session. He thinks they "played" without him >:( not fair

*Dani finally shows up and checks on Davey quickly and thanks his adoptive family and plans to leave as well. The batfam interrupts her in her lightning thanks to ask her who she is, she replies: uh, sister or cousin I guess? then turns to Davey waiting for his opinion

*giving a name to a supernatural entity seals a sort of contract between the entity and the person who gives this name if the entity accepts this name (fae rule). By giving him the name Davey the Wayne family tied Davey into a bond that neither party is aware of and therefore defined. Constantine groaned upon hearing this.

*Davey can see the weak but vengeful ghosts of children, that's how he knew the name of the first victim in the first post. Mayba Danny/Dani/Vlad can not do that

*Davey gets along surprisingly well with street children. Subconsciously the children know that they are safe with him because if anything bad happens it will ALWAYS fall on Davey

*some interactions for Davey*

Duke:*eating a sandwich*

Davey: *staring*

Duke: Do you need something?

Davey: I see dead people.

Duke:....cool....me too.

Damian: No.

***

Dick: What do you do if an adult offers you candy?

Davey: Eat it.

Dick: No. You say no and run away from them then tell an adult.

Davey: Like a cop? Literally like that guy with blonde hair from your job?

Dick: Yes, just like him.

Davey: But he strangles street ladies and kitties. They told me.

Dick:...hold on buddy. I need to make some calls real quick. Don't turn on the news for a while.

***

Danny: Why is my clone on TV? At a gala? WITH THE WAYNES?

Tucker: Damn, he's living better then you.

SNITCHES THE CAT SEQUEL pt1 and masterpost

Part Two/Part Three/ Part Four/ Part Five

Part One

“This you?”

Danny pushed the newspaper down without looking at it, revealing Sam’s shitty grin. “That lost cat is not me, no.” He rolled his eyes. They had been showing him lost pet ads ever since he got back from Gotham. “Isn’t that joke getting old, guys?” He kicked his way further into a slouch in the booth as Tucker came back with refilled drinks.

Tucker laughed, and then there was a silence. “Danny? Are you sure this isn’t you, man?” He sounded uncertain.

He felt his jaw twitch and he had to tell his friend off. “Is it that funny that there’s a sad kid out there? Honestly, guys-” Danny opened his eyes fully to roll them and then saw the lost pet ad being brandished in his face. He blinked at it. His brain did a full reboot and he reached out to take the paper.

It looked like him, sleeping on the cushion in the batcave. Had they gotten that photo from the security footage? “It’s me.” His voice came out way too high.

Luthor's Cricket Master post

Lex summons a spirit to 'help' him be better than Superman. Danny misunderstood the assignment, and agrees. The magic spell goes weird, and now he is stuck to a new rich fruitloop... Hopefully he is better than Vlad. Right?

Harvey Dent: You know this parenting thing is easy.
Danny: Who ever let you get custody should be disbared.
Harvey Dent: And whoever let you live must regret it.
Danny: Harv, he is being mean to us again.
Harvey Dent: Danny you know how he gets around your other half.
Danny: I'd stab him in the eye if I could.
Harvey Dent: Try me!

Harvey Dent: Bruce probably has never dealt with shit like this.

Spawn

Tim went mad scientist during the search for Batman and he cloned himself just in case he died. The objective was to retain all knowledge even if the original was dead, so he wore a chip that would feed knowledge to the clone that was in stasis.

All of this was a contingency for Ra's interest and the LOA's meddling. However, it so happened that Phantom was launched across universes and he landed by complete coincidence inside the gestating clone. The overshadowing was so shocking that it put Phantom to sleep for a couple of weeks. When he woke up, the pod sprang open and Danny fell down to the ground face first. Turns out Tim's heart flatlined for a couple of seconds while he was trapped with the LOA, and that was enough for the clone to be released and the chip connection to be cut.

Now Danny, naked and completely bewildered, is having contrasting information in his head about himself. He's Danny Fenton, half-ghost screw up, and he is at the same time Tim Drake, genius superhero that just died at the hands of Ra's. He has to investigate how to go back to his own world and he has to look into Bruce's disappearance to bring him back.

The whole thing is a literal headache, and Danny settles for using the gadgets and clothes Tim had left for him.

Having the brain/memories of a genius comes as a gift. However, Danny still doesn't realize that he's overshadowing someone and goes out to do some recon of his own.

He wants to see if there's really a Batcave in Wayne's basement.

Everyone Loves a 2-for-1 Sale

(Not the og, just trying to live up to this) coincidentally that’s exactly what Danny says. But also this just inspired me so I wrote a tidbit, and if OP is good with it I might let it turn into a wip but prob not idk
Btw there is another 2 part ficlet written for this

It takes Danny an embarrassingly long time to actually make it to Gotham to confront Timothy Drake-Red Robin-Original Owner of Thine Genes.

Correction, Danny thinks he deserves to have taken his sweet time about it and will continue to do so; Ted Tobin on the other hand… thinks Danny needs to get his priorities straight and hurry it up, he was Robin for goodness sakes, 5 months? Really?!

Danny thinks Ted Tobin needs to shuzhhh because they both know that two of those months were spent trying to figure out where Danny ended and Tim began, and then even more so where Tim ended and Red Robin began. Because of course his new body had identity issues free with purchase.

After finally figuring out how to deal with the Danny in Tim mind situation, (there was a rough couple of months he called himself Tanny,) Danny unabashedly decided he didn’t want to deal with the default identity crisis and squished it into one manageable little box he labeled ‘Ted Tobin’.

The voice that sounded like Jazz said that was ignoring his issues, but Jazz also sounded like the child therapist Jack and Janet Drake had sent him to so he’d get labeled a genius, so he ignored it.

He’d spent five months abroad, struggling to pick up behind his original -No, Bad Danny you are your own person-behind his doppelgänger on the search for Bruce.

He finds out Bruce was stranded in time just too late enough to be there to bring him back. He figures they probably don’t want him there anyway, so he takes what he knows about time travel from Clockwork and conspicuously sprinkles it into First Tim’s path.

He only had to actually impersonate the original once, and it’s all too easy to let Danny fade to the background and let Tim, in all his collected calm calculation, manipulate the situation.

It works, thankfully, and he hopes he doesn’t have to do it again. (He doesn’t know that he could.)

Once he hears that Bruce is back, that he completed his mission, what he set out to do, the reason he became Red Robin in the first place, Danny becomes more Danny, but this time, Tim doesn’t fade out like he had at first, which is what caused the Tanny situation.

And after finally, finally, figuring out the identity crisis, Danny really started to get sick of people calling him Red Robin- okay they didn’t call him that exactly but one can only hear ‘Hey aren’t you that vigilante from Gotham-‘ so many times before they have to stop.

So he switched up the Red Robin outfit he’d been wearing since waking up in- or rather out of- The Pod.

(He only took it off for rare occasions, but ‘Hey aren’t you that rich kid from Gotham’ is less easy to change with a color swap of his Kevlar.)

The dark grey (not black, the family would think it’s threatening) base color, with gray fading and green accents like his bandoliers (It’s a callback to Robin, just enough color to keep firmly in the child-vigilante category so they’re less likely to attack), heck even the lower face mask with a domino suits the new him.

Ha, suits.

Anyway!- Danny takes another sip of his coffee and returns his mask to his mouth- He was in Gotham now and that was that.

New suit. New memories. New him!

Danny is currently remotely hacking into his own comm channels and his- no-Tim’s gauntlet from the upper business side of Gotham.

From there it’s short work to ping off one of Tim’s trackers still laced into Danny’s suit hem and he knows it’ll send them running. The calculating and paranoid part of him wants to investigate first, test the waters, maybe watch(stalk) the now reunited family; but the reckless punch-ghost-now-do-homework-later part of him says that’s not worth it and it’s better to confront them now.

He doesn’t even have to guess to know which side won that debate. Not Ted Tobin that’s for sure.

“Red Robin, I’ve got your distress beacon in the financial district, what’s wrong?”

“Your tech must be glitching Oracle, I haven’t stepped foot in the Financials all night, Spoiler just saw me.”

“I did, we’re nowhere near-“

“Then you better get near because the cameras at that location are showing me a masked figure- oh fantastic, he just waved. He knows we’re watching, be careful.”

“On my way.” Batman’s growl echoes across the comm line.

Tim sighs into his own comm before replying, “Me too then.”

Danny is sitting on top of the water tower when Red Robin arrives with Spoiler in tow- unsurprisingly they look up and spot him within seconds.

They jump into fighting stances when he jumps down and lets his cape flare out. He even lands within it, letting it cover him all Batman like and everything.

Danny smirks, no wonder Phantom had wanted a cape. Danny likes his.

“Who are you?” Red Robin says, tense and fists still up.

Oh right. Danny rises slowly, putting his hands up, “Really, no recognition? Not even a little?”

Steph answers for him, “What? You think because you dress a little like Red, we’re supposed to know you?”

“A little like him-! A little-!” Danny is offended in the way that only Steph can make him, “I know for a fact this is better than any copycat vigilante’s sewing project!”

Red Robin cuts in again, “Who are you.”

“Hey dumbass,” Danny rolls his eyes and sighs inwardly, he can’t even have coffee right now, “You remember all that time you spent with the League of Assassins? Ra’s and his creepy fruitloop self?”

The two bats tense. But Danny doesn’t break eye contact with Tim.

“Well do you also remember when your heart stopped?”

Red Robin’s eyes narrow in suspicion. They both ignore how the comm fills with yells and questions, Steph gets even more tense.

“Just for a minute. Not long. But long enough. How ‘bout your back up plan? You remember that?”

More suspicion, but not quite recognition, but he knows it’s close, he just has to get him there.

“Come on RR, I, of all people, know how fast that brain of yours works.”

The lenses of Red Robin’s eyes widen exponentially, ah there it is. He sees RR’s fists loosen and knows exactly what’s next.

“You’re-”

Danny chucks his rock, hitting Red Robin square in the jaw and making him stumble back. Spoiler jumps in front of him on guard immediately.

“You know what that was for, Asshole! I’ve been holding onto it since Iran!” Danny whoops. Finally! That rock had been in his belt for months, but he knew the only time he’d get a chance Tim wouldn’t dodge would be in a state of pure shock.

Totally worth it even if it ruins his chances of trust.

Hopefully not, but still.

“Red, you okay?” Spoiler says, voice filled with defensiveness.

RR groans with regret behind her, cradling his jaw, “Yeah, Steph I’m fine.“

Spoiler goes rigid, “Red, don’t use-“

“He’s fine. If he knows how to hack my gauntlet he definitely knows our names.”

Danny feels his neck prickle and immediately jumps to side in time to avoid Batman’s hand trying to grab him.

A sense of relief floods through him at seeing Batman-B, Bruce, his dad- alive and present. Because it’s definitely not Dick under that cowl.

Even with the demon child scowling at his side.

Danny has to reel in every memory of driving himself into the ground to bring Bruce back and focus on the now, focus on letting Ted Tobin shine.

“Tim you wanna explain or should I?”

No one gets the chance to speak before there’s the sharp sound of metal as Damian draws his blade. Oh great, just as bloodthirsty as in his memories, wonderful.

“Who is this fool, Drake. Even someone as idiotic as you knows not to reveal our identities.”

“And you are just as unpleasant as I don’t remember, Demon brat.”

“I will eviscerate you-!”

“You could certainly try you little bloodthirsty cheerio!” God he hates this kid and he’s only actually met him once!

The anger clouding his vision snaps clear as Batman steps forward and between them with a separating hand, “Who are you? Why are you here?”

“B, I’ve been asking myself the same questions for months now. If anyone’s got the answer it’s Red over there, the one doing the gaping fish impression.”

“Father, why is this urchin speaking so familiarly to you?”

Batman doesn’t respond, still glaring Danny down. Danny, who very much wishes he had all of Ted Tobin’s batglare resistance, glances over at Red Robin with a pointed look.

He finally steps in front of Steph, between all of them, “Everyone, relax. He shouldn’t be a threat to us, identities or no.” Tim glances back at him.

Danny gives a small nod back, “I love Lucy pumpkin watermelon.”

There’s a moment of pause as Tim’s shoulders sag with weight and everyone else seems to recoil with confusion.

“Did I just have a stroke? What the fuck was that? That wasn’t a sentence-“

“No Spoiler you didn’t have a stroke, that was a code phrase…” Red Robin looks at Batman with a wince, “Specifically the code phrase for my clone. That I made.”

Everyone’s heads whip to Danny, who takes it as his cue to remove his lower mask. “Sup,”

“For in case I died.”

Tensions rise somehow even higher as they take in Danny’s -Tim’s- face. Danny takes the opportunity to reach between the roof installments to grab the coffee he stashed there.

Now that he doesn’t need his mouth covered, there’s nothing stopping him.

“This simpleton is your clone? Tt. Of course.”

“Was it too much to hope that he’d split the insults between the two of us? Rather than double it?”

Tim shrugs with bone deep exhaustion, “Probably.”

“Cave.” Batman growls, “Now.”

“Now that one I expected. Lead the way, B.” He steps past Tim, handing him the now empty coffee cup, “For the DNA test. The first of many I’m sure.”

Then he drops down into the alley of the Batmobile.

It’s the first time he’s ever seen it. He’s intimately familiar with the locking mechanism.

He’s never been inside before. He barely hesitates to open the door and get in.

The car came to life around them and Danny sighed.

Tonight was gonna be a long night.

Ted Tobin wanted to sigh too.

Everyone Loves a 2-For-1 Sale - Part 2

Danny lazily twirls the Batchair back and forth with his foot as he watches the family argue about him.

He’s doing it mostly to see how Damian’s sword hand twitches with his casualness. Hey it’s not his fault he already knows them and they don’t know him.

He’s also doing it a little bit to keep from spinning all the way around and just diving into the Batcomputer’s files.

And hey, if this all goes sour… his gauntlet’s remote access has already started syncing the new data so he’ll be up to date anyways.

A steaming mug enters his field of vision.

Mmm coffee.

Danny reaches towards it with grabby hands, “Rough night for you?” He says as he sips without looking away from the family, “Ow hot.”

Tim chuckles from his spot next to him, staring at his family with his own cup of coffee in hand, “I’d say you have no idea, but you were there and you’re practically me so… coffee. Figured if I needed it, you probably would too.”

“Mmm coffee was a good starter,” He takes another sip, much cooler than the last, “But I’ve got a correction for you,” he glances up at Tim from the corner of his eye, “I’m not you. Haven’t been for a long time.”

Tim’s eyebrows scrunch together in surprised confusion.

Danny finally turns to look at his original properly, “Oh don’t get me wrong, I woke up with plenty identity problems. Thought you were dead for the first few weeks and I was the replacement, found out you weren’t and lost my purpose… all that. But in the end,” He shrugged and took a sip before meeting Tim’s eyes, “All the identity issues, they were just slowing me down from helping find Bruce, helping you. So I got over them. Now I’m all good.”

Tim is staring at him.

Danny finally registers the silence and realizes the others are staring at him too.

“What? Do I have a coffee-stache?”

“You mean to tell me…” Steph starts, “You just ‘got over’ the identity issues of being a literal clone… because it wasn’t pragmatic enough for the mission?!”

Danny shrugged, “I had more important things to focus on.”

“That is such a Tim thing to do.”

Both Tim and Danny snap to her, “I resent that remark!”

The argument is interrupted as another bike revs into the cave.

Dick.

Danny rolls his eyes and feels bitterness bubble up inside him. Of course he’s here.

Ted Tobin tries to tamp down on the annoyance but Danny ignores it.

“Nightwing.” Bruce greets stiffly.

“B,” Nightwing swings off his bike and removes his helmet, “What’d you call me for? What’s going …on…" Dick trails off as he catches sight of Danny sitting in the chair, mask off, and Tim standing next to him, also mask off.

“Oh.”

Danny scoffs, “Oh, he says,” Danny rolls his eyes again, “The wit of the Boy wonder strikes again,” he says mockingly.

It’s enough to make the group look over at him with a highly skeptical look and a raised eyebrow.

The silence stretches on.

“So is it an evil clone or like…. twin?? What’s happening here?”

“Clone? Yes. Evil? No.” Danny says with a fake smile.

Tim sighed and stepped forward, “It’s a long story, Dick.”

“Yeah it’s a long story, Dick.” Danny snarled as he stood and addressed the rest of the family, “ ‘Course it’d much shorter if you’d just ask me but why would we do that?”

“Whoa I just found out about you. What’s with the animosity?” Nightwing said with his hands up in mock surrender.

Danny refrained from rolling his eyes, again, “See, you might have just met me but I’ve got all of Tim’s memories, and truthfully Dick, the last memory I have of you is you replacing me-him with the demon brat so while you might have buried that problem with Tim, I’ve still got plenty issues with you. And I don’t have the same hang ups as he does, I’ve never actually met you, I am perfectly fine chewing you out for it,” Danny snarls.

There’s a bit of a stunned silence as the rest of the family stares not at him but at Tim in almost expectance.

Really? He literally just said he didn’t hold the same opinions as Tim. Whatever.

Danny claps his hands together, “Welp… That was extremely therapeutic. Anywho, since we’re getting nowhere with this, while you guys run the DNA tests I gave you and the ones you think I didn’t notice, I’m going to go upstairs, form my own opinions of Alfred’s cookies and then find a place to pass out for a couple hours. Good? Good.” He nods succinctly at the group and moves towards the stairs.

Ted Tobin notices the figure step out from the shadows before he does. Black Bat, of course, but with her mask down, he recognizes her as just Cass.

She looks at him for a solid half minute before tilting her head slightly. Danny mimics it with slight smile.

‘Not Tim.’ She signs. And wow, that’s the first time he’s seen and understood ASL; wild.

Danny grins at her, “She gets it.” He says to the room at large.

‘Half-Tim?’ She signs again, this time with another head tilt the other way.

Danny feels his fingers move before he realizes it, a little bit uncertain as he finger spells, ‘Half T-E-D T-O-B-I-N’ Then, ‘And half-me.’ He signs with a self assured shrug as he leans back.

Cass lingers for another second before straightening and nodding at him in concession.

“Explain.” Comes Batman’s growl from behind him.

Danny sighs and turns back around, feeling Ted Tobin practically jump to obey Bruce and-nope, he’s not doing the self-esteem problems right now. “You’re going to have to actually ask a specific question for me to explain it, Batman.”

Batman’s eyes glower -how does he even notice that?- but he answers, “You said you were only half you and half..Tim.”

There’s a note of uncertainty as he says Tim. Clearly having to decide between saying Ted Tobin. Danny decides for him.

“Half-Ted Tobin is what I said, actually. It’s what I call all the Tim and Red Robin thoughts swimming around in my brain. Ya know, the urge to stay up for 3 days straight, drink nothing but coffee, take down an assassin organization in my free time, those thoughts,” Danny looks directly at Tim as he says it, watching his shoulders hitch higher and higher with shame as the rest of the family also stares.

Tim avoids it by putting the attention back on him, the bastard, they were playing by sibling in trouble rules clearly, “And the other half?” He says, urging.

He throws his doppel a bone, “Is me. I have all your memories up until that moment in the League, Tim, but they’re just that, memories. I don’t have any of the emotional context for them, or the trauma I’m sure was associated, my brain didn’t experience them, just stored their information as electrical impulses. It’s why clones turn out different; I have your memories, not your experience. Same goes for training by the way, which sucked. Having to retrain so much of our skills from memory, Alone. But all that means I am not you, I chose the name Danny by the way, since none of you asked. So you can all stop referring to me as ‘the clone’ in your head.”

There’s a slight tap of a shoe behind him, “I had thought I’d raised you all with better manners, Master Bruce.”

Danny turns around to see Alfred Pennyworth standing in front of the elevator doors, cookie tray in hand and eyebrow raised disappointingly at Bruce. Cass chooses to skitter off to the shadows with a cookie already in hand.

“It’s nice to meet you, Alfred. I’m Danny, Tim’s accidental clone.”

Alfred nods primly with a gentle smile, “So I heard, from Ms. Barbara, but all the same.” He shoots a sharp look of reproach to Bruce before looking back, “Would you like a cookie? Forgive me for assuming, but I made butterscotch chip, Tim’s favorite.”

Danny smiles at him, and turns to join him in the elevator, enjoying the look Alfred gives anyone who dares to stop him.

Danny follows Alfred up to the kitchen, enjoying the small talk of favorites and what he’s been doing since waking up, what he’s learned… Ted Tobin says that this is just another interrogation, knows it’s all going to be fed back to the family afterward, but Danny simply shrugs and lingers in the first true contact he’s had in quite a while. In ever?

Then he follows Alfred, still lightly chatting, up to a new room, several doors down from Tim’s he notices, and sags when the door closes between them.

He brushes his hand against the door handle, tucking it in close when it simply goes through.

Shit.

It was getting worse.

Danny changes into the clothes on the desk and lays himself down on the bed with a small sigh of exhaustion.

Trying to hold it in completely for that long, was not easy.

Danny rolls over and forces himself to fall asleep, ignoring Ted Tobin saying he should stay up and do something- nope sorry, Danny is tired, Danny has been up for two days, Danny is going to sleep.

No matter what his inner brain self says.

The thing about dreams as a clone is that they mostly don’t happen.

Most of Danny’s dreams are white emptiness, occasionally filled with random bits and references to his recent five months of existence.

But sometimes… sometimes Danny feels like there’s something happening in the background, something he’s missing, just out of sight and just blurry enough he can’t make it out, like a TV left playing in the other room.

He can’t seem to look closer, no matter what he tries.

For some reason, he doesn’t think other clones have this problem.

Hello

So I’ve been binging a bunch of DPxDC crossover fics cause they’re hella fun. And I wanted to make some fanart for a handful of the fics I’ve been reading just to show how vastly different Danny gets portrayed. It’s really fun!! I love when ppl make Danny get Jack’s tall ass gene’s, but it’s also funny to see him as a scrawny lil guy. He’s a pretty moldable character

Anywho, it’s just been fun, so here’s some fanart. Thanks to the authors for writing them 🙏

Fics in order of art:

If you give any of these a read, just make sure you mind the tags/ratings
