a rookanis/datv canon retelling (formerly titled "find you")

Formerly House De Riva's secret weapon, the protégé of the Fifth Talon, Selora "Rook" de Riva, is grappling with being thrust into leadership after confronting Solas in Minrathous. The contract she took with Varric has only gotten increasingly more complicated. One those complications arriving in the shape of Lucanis Dellamorte, master assassin and grandson of the First Talon. Selora only knows the Demon of Vyrantium through the stories told about him but, as it turned out, breaking him out of the Ossuary was the easy part. Fresh out of a Venatori prison, possessed by a demon, and reeling from the loss of his grandmother, Lucanis is wary of them but committed to completing the contract Caterina left for him. The Disgraced Crow and Crow-Turned-Abomination gain each other's trust and learn to work together to save Treviso and go up against the Evanuris.

Veilguard Appreciation Week 2025 - Day 4

Dusted off my beloved boy Hugo de Riva for this one. It's a bit of a Rook x Bellara vibe, but maybe it's just all in my head.

Today's prompts for the @veilguard-appreciation-week:

Treviso, Determination, "Bitter and sweet, like a kiss goodbye."

“This is getting absurd. It’s just some coffee, Bel.” It had been raining throughout the whole day, but it seemed like Bellara didn’t even notice. Hugo was soaked, cold and hungry; however, his companions' enthusiasm made up for all the inconveniences.

“We haven’t tried there yet!” Bellara lit up, trotting towards a stall with a red canopy above it, the seller already shuffling uncomfortably. “We’ve been at this stall six times already. I’ve seen the shopkeep more times just today than I saw Viago all of last year” Hugo chuckled, readjusting his grip on a massive basket filled with various ingredients they purchased already “And each time shopkeep said he has no clue what we’re talking about”

“He’d rather kiss Emil the Adder than tell anyone what wine Viago drank with his dinners.” <- I snorted out loud. Mood, Hugo, mood 😂

WIP Wednesday-Thursday

I was tagged by @mythals-whore yesterday and @ofcrowsanddragons today but, alas, I have very little to show for it except this.

Which issssss mostly just me playing with some ideas about the De Riva Talon before Viago and how to tie some other threads together. Whether it will make it into an actual Thing is tbd but idk I like the vibe I think?

For the rest of her life, she would never catch the scent of a rose without recalling this night. The room was perfumed with the scent of the lush flowers blooming from the vases, freshly cut that afternoon from the garden, and already beginning to droop from the weight of their own crowns. Candles had been lit in preparation of the Talon’s arrival, who was said to hate the dark—but never within earshot. Whether it was rumor only—or a consequence of paranoia of the sort nurtured by power—was a matter for debate, but Selora knew the truth: the woman was going blind. Everyone in her trusted circle made up for the deficit in exchange for their proximity to her. Rather, to her title… for however much longer it would belong to her.

this time I shall tag @muqington, @mercars-musings, @operative-arrow, @complikatedd ( more noodle cat nap >:D) and @thedissonantverses (what if i said this was a plea for more cowboys?) but ignoreeee if you wish <3

Veilguard Appreciation

It's Veilguard appreciation week and while this doesn't fall under any prompts, I still wanted to take a moment to gush about an aspect of the game that had a profound impact on me and that's the accessibility.

I have very poor vision and I greatly appreciate what they did to make it easier to play the game. I was able to make the text bigger! They made the contrast on the text so it stood out from the background! And even the design of the game with it's stylization, I wasn't having trouble with the visual noise that a lot of "realistic" games do. But. Most of all. They had! A setting! For colorblindness!!!

Do you know how many health jars I missed before I found that setting? Sometimes I'd be literally running into them before noticing them.

Default setting

Colorblind setting

I have been informed that if you have normal color vision these images aren't that much different but to me the second one is MUCH clearer, I can distinctly tell the objects and depth is much clearer to me so I stop falling off the edge of things. So, I wa ted to join and celebrate something that doesn't affect a lot of people, but for those it does, it's SO nice

(I am not fully colorblind, I can see red and green in their pure forms, but there are shades in between that I cannot distinguish between)

WIP Wednesday Thursday

My digital art WIP of Lucanis. Ref screenshot from @emmavakarian-theirin

@mythals-whore and @biowaredisasterbisexual both tagged me in WIP Wednesday, and @bygonesigh and @mageofquandrix encouraged me to post a WIP of the art I was working on. Tagging @hyperions-light @thedissonantverses @dymme @basedonconjecture

“There’s a case on the table,” he said. “Open it.”

It wasn’t a suggestion, and I walked to the other side of the room and unclipped the fastenings on the understated leather case. It was heavy, and large, taking up nearly a quarter of the worktable on its own. I was unsurprised when I levered it open to find two long rows of forged steel blades, of various types and lengths. It was a nice gesture, letting me at the weapons first.

I raised my eyebrows at him over the edge of the case. “You’re trying extra hard to come across as nonthreatening this morning. Do you think I don’t know how many throwing knives you’re carrying?”

“Do you always needle people when you feel threatened?” Luca asked, a note of unbothered curiosity in his voice. “And no, I think you’re guessing.”

Well, he was right about the knives. The count was at least three, though, and probably tipped with something that made them resistant to magic.

I still can't get over lucanis at the end of the wigmaker job -- having limped his way down the docks, nursing several broken ribs, dripping rivers of blood (some of it his own. most of it not) onto the floorboards before the innkeeper's horrified and irate eyes, having just Faced the Horrors frfr and cut a bloody swath through a party of tevinter high society as if setting out to contemptuously prove poe's red death a mere piddling amateur, in his fucking batman-ass black leather overcoat getup, presumably woozy with blood loss and fading adrenaline -- just standing there sadly like '🥺is my cousin here'

Just give him back to his cousin, barkeep, it's been a rough night.
