That boy. Meant more to him. Than anything in life.

Jason Todd very casually encouraging underage drinking
I dislike this for a lot of reasons, but especially because itโs another small example of how writers leaned into this โdestructive bad boyโ concept and disregarded jasonโs past entirely in a lot of red hood comics. thereโs no reason for jason, child of addicts, who grew up in a poor community, to encourage habits like underage drinking, smoking, or drugs. it feels extremely cheap, and even dirty, to throw that at his character when we see how child jason has to cope with substance abuse by his parents and witnesses it constantly in his community.
I think the writerโs desire to portray him as aloof just comes off as distasteful and like a cheap stereotype, leaving jason feeling so inauthentic and paradoxical to who he actually is and the issues and traumas that are core to his character.
I just donโt think the red hood who actively put out a kill list on anyone selling drugs to kids would ever encourage underage substance use.
Yes, this 100%. I can see the argument that Jason was drinking underage and/or smoking as a kid, as that's probably what he knew and thought was normal, but there's no way he would encourage that behavior with another kid
