Hugh todayโก
New baby!
Her name is Quimby!!
This is her 5th day with us, and these little babies just warm up to you so fast, don't they? ๐ญ๐
I was expecting this to take much longer, but I guess she's young enough that she only needs a few good experiences to gain her trust.
She's got 3 siblings from a different clutch arriving in a week or two, as well [different parents, same breeder] --so I am hoping that observing Quimby's trust will warm them up to us just as quickly, too.
We wanted to gain a proper flock, since Wilbur lost Orville and I don't want him to be a lone budgie for much longer. Now that our work on Woven is done, we finally have the time to properly dedicate to themโก So it seemed like the right time to do it.
They'll all have Sean's office [and free roam of it during the day while he's there working], while Milly gets to enjoy me and my office as it's sole ruler[tyrannical].
I gave up on my plans for a red scape and green fish lmao as soon as I realized that I needed dense floaters for the fish...which limits the amount of light I can get to the plants....and well, my red guys got REAL leggy in a week.
On top of that, my mother in law has bestowed upon me the meanest bastard fish I have ever plunked into a tank. The very moment he was freed from plastic bag prison, he turned immediately to crimes [hunting/chasing my shrimp and eating EVERY SNAIL].
So please meet Hugh Jassole.
I hate him, so he's gonna live for a decade out of sheer spite. He's perfect๐
His giant fins are a huge drag on him tho, he struggles with them more than any other betta I've cared for...So that meant planting some new furnishings...he needs leaves that are rubust enough for him to sit on so I went ahead and got some for him.
There are anubias in the back that hopefully should grow nice and tall as well and give him some nice little shelves to chill on.
I really missed having a betta...there's something just very nice and soothing about watching them.
EDIT: WRONG BLOG this was supposed to go on @bee-menagerie aaaaaa ah well.......enjoy ur random fishpost I GUESS
adding just a touch more red to my lighting makes the plants look so red...without turning the whole tank magenta like red light is prone to do. Grow into a nice, lush crimson forest for my eventual green betta ๐ค
So much hard work pruning and planting...for it to look so sad and ugly ๐
it's ok tho, it'll look much better in like...a week. Just you wait and see.
two days later, and things are straightening out a little nicer..! I really want the hygrophila in the back left corner to grow good and tall like I know the bushy green lads will on the right haha
eventually, I will be trimming down and replanting more of the red guys, and with c02 added, they should hopefully grow back a little more densely leaved. I think too, I wanna dither some red between the bushy green for a bit more of a color gradient, too...I think I know how to do that and with a slightly different texture. For later times, tho.
I really love the hygrophila...a lot more than I thought I would. the photo does them no favors, but if they mature well, the camera will love them too, eventually haha
