Introduction

Hi! I'm Erica (BG), and I write fan fiction! I've been writing fic since 2004, and you can find me on AO3 and FFN! As you might have gleaned, I predominantly write Back to the Future fanfic, but I have written for many fandoms over the years!

Side Blogs

This is my main blog, but I have side blogs, too.

  • @juneofdoom - an annual whump challenge I host because some friends were sad another whump challenge wasn't happening, so I made them a list. Obviously it snowballed.
  • @piratepianist - Moodboard blog. Colors make me happy, and I express that best through moodboards since I can't draw.
  • @nopinestimeline - a sideblog I made for my version of Evil!Marty
  • @bgsbracelets - Thanks to the #bttfbff friendship bracelet exchange, I've gotten so into bracelet making that I'm giving my creations their own sideblog while I set up an Etsy store. This is still very under construction, but if you want to see all the fun fandom bracelets I make, give me a follow!

A whole rain writing challenge‽ gah!! I will circle back to you, my love, I SWEAR 🌧️

this is SO specific but honestly my favourite scenes in BTTF are the ones where marty and doc are SHOUTING at each other because they're in such a loud environment

I'm talking about:

  • Shouting over the thunder even before Doc goes up the clock tower in BTTF
  • Marty shouting at Doc despite using a walkie-talkie during the climax of BTTF2
  • Shouting over Doc's "refrigerator" in BTTF3

Encouragment for writers that I know seems discouraging at first but I promise it’s motivational-

• Those emotional scenes you’ve planned will never be as good on page as they are in your head. To YOU. Your audience, however, is eating it up. Just because you can’t articulate the emotion of a scene to your satisfaction doesn’t mean it’s not impacting the reader.

• Sometimes a sentence, a paragraph, or even a whole scene will not be salvagable. Either it wasn’t necessary to the story to begin with, or you can put it to the side and re-write it later, but for now it’s gotta go. It doesn’t make you a bad writer to have to trim, it makes you a good writer to know to trim.

• There are several stories just like yours. And that’s okay, there’s no story in existence of completely original concepts. What makes your story “original” is that it’s yours. No one else can write your story the way you can.

• You have writing weaknesses. Everyone does. But don’t accept your writing weaknesses as unchanging facts about yourself. Don’t be content with being crap at description, dialogue, world building, etc. Writers that are comfortable being crap at things won’t improve, and that’s not you. It’s going to burn, but work that muscle. I promise you’ll like the outcome.

For any writers that need encouragement

10 Things for 10 People You'd Like to Know Better

Thanks for the tag @knickynoo!

Last Song: "I'm Here" by Fernando Velázquez from the Crimson Peaks (2015) score. It's been on repeat all day feeding a one-shot I just finished half an hour ago. :)

Last Book: Close Quarters (To the Ends of the Earth #2) by William Golding. The BBC did a 3-part mini-series of this trilogy in 2005 with a baby Benedict Cumberbatch, Jared Harris, and Sam Neill, and so far, they did a great adaptation! I've learned a lot of new words, too!

Last Movie: The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996). Mostly for Frollo research, secretly to belt “Out There” in the privacy of my living room.

Last TV Show: The IT Crowd. For, like, what has to be my 16th rewatch. I aspire to this brand of comedy.

Favorite Color: Brown! Also seafoam/ mint green and light sage green. And cerulean because HOLY BLUE.

Sweet, Savory, or Spicy: I love them all. Its definitely mood-dependant. I like my sweets but sometimes I just stand in my kitchen looking for a snack and say “I need baked chicken NOW.” Spicy is being less kind to me as I get older, but I still love it!

Relationship Status: Married with 3 crazies underfoot :)

Last Thing I Googled: "parts of a canopy bed" lmao

Current Obsession: Once Upon a Time. I watched it at the end of 2023 and loved it. It was one of the last things I talked about at length with my best friend before she passed away, and I returned to it in January this year as a comfort/ coping thing. And now I'm 55K into fanfic I haven't even posted yet. 🙃

Looking Forward To: June of Doom. I am 17/30 on prompts right now, and I'm churning out 1500-4500-word one-shots per prompt. It's honestly staggering. Kind of want to see if I can really write a whole novel's worth of stuff in time. And meet all the prompts without saying "meh" about any of it. Because I love all 17 I've done already! And I'm looking forward to workshopping/ editing them all throughout May.

Tagging @daryfromthefuture @professorsaber @stillpreoccupiedwith1985 @itsthemorph and anyone else who wants to play! Steal the questions! Do the fun!
