neil is so funny because throughout all three books hes like “i dont need to know these people”, “useless information about my teammates is taking up space in my brain”, “i pulled back to not get attached”, “everyone here is insane and sucks” while simultaneously inserting himself into everybodys business
a terrible thing about the hunger games is that katniss and president snow did have an understanding that they wouldn’t lie to each other and i really think they stuck to that

there’s something so sweet about jerejean because its not exactly a foregone conclusion but they definitely acknowledge their attraction to each other and it’s slowly (debatable) developed over the books. they know and specifically buy things because of their favourite colours, they have taken each other as partners, jeremy is learning marseille french for jean and so many other things. its the subtle ways they angle towards each other.
its just really lovely the attention they pay to each other, its both friendship and attraction which is so special.
maysilee is such an intriguing character because she’s privileged, but she isn’t.
she doesn’t have to worry about food and can care about her looks and wears six necklaces. but shes also at the bottom of the district food chain, is in danger of being reaped constantly and has to work. people treat her differently for her privilege, shes snobby and stuck up but she’s vermin to the capitol. and she uses her privileges to assert that people from the districts are human and enjoy nice things, when other 12 folk don’t have the capacity to treat themselves better.
the part when haymitch mistakes merrilee for maysilee really hurts because do you think he does that for the others he lost?
does he see a woman carrying washing down the street and want to call out ma?
does he see a skinny boy playing and feels the urge to call sid in for dinner?
does he want to call out louella’s name when he sees katniss in her two braids for the first time? or when he sees burdock’s hunting jacket around her shoulders?
does he see a girl with red hair and long to put his arms around lenore dove, just one last time?
does he see all the tributes that were killed in all the children of district 12?
is that why he couldn’t be sober? because he was constantly haunted everyday by all the people he lost, the people he blames himself for their deaths?
