I am a little annoyed at how they had Rachel Zegler belting and screaming to a whole original Snow White song that feels written for Moana or any of their previous Disney princesses instead of having her sing on Classical Soprano (and the actress is perfectly capable of doing so if anyone has ever seen West Side Story) but then again, this was Disney’s attempt at the whole “Snow White is strong and independent, we won’t have her sing in a soft whistle tone like the animated version” but again, I won’t be watching or consuming this movie because I won’t put myself through Gal Gadot’s “acting”.

I think Zoe Saldana’s attitude toward the “movie” Emilia Perez showcases how no matter your race or gender if you are from an opresive country you are ACTIVELY part of the problem.

Zoe never spoke up against or in favor of the movie, while the director and Karla burnt at the public stake she remained silent but as soon as she had her price suddenly she is proud of working in that garbage. Price she didn’t deserve btw

It was never about women, it’s insensitive towards women, towards the mothers going out looking for their missing children everyday, the girls, sisters, daughters and mothers that lost her life because of cartel violence or because they got too close while looking for their missing families, the actual lawyers and collectives working for women’s rights. She should be ashamed because as a woman with those simple words she is undermining the sacrifices these women went trough
It was never about women, No, it was about a pathetic French man trying to make a profound movie bastardizing a tragedy that affects a whole country cause he thought that making it about “ a poor country in need of saving” would make him look smart while using what he considered a “diverse cast” NEWSFLASH you all only looked like insensible colonizers.

The so called director whose name I don’t care about and Karla Sofia, should retire and work on something else, no talent in them only racism and delusions of greatness.
And Selena, please engage in Latino culture, learn the language, help out now more than ever, don’t use the Latino badge only when convenient, or you will be part of the problem too
And my rant is not about the movie, Camila already answered to that with an iconic short film. And all of Latin America is united against that garbage, even major tv channels here in Mexico covered the Oscars openly mocking that movie.

It is about how you can be a woman of color, a Latina, a trans woman and still be an oppressor, we all have a privilege we have to acknowledge and use in favor of those who don’t have it, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A WOMAN.

Critics are already predicting Cynthia and Ariana will get re-nominated again for Wicked: Part Two so let’s hope they get more recognition this time around…
I think Ariana has a big chance for Supporting on this one because by Part Two the story gets a bit more serious and her role has a lot of emotional moments so they can move past her character being “a comedic relief” scenario. I don’t know about Cynthia because Lead Actress is harder to crack, but I know she co-wrote an original song for the movie and if this gets campaigned for Best Original Song, she has a huge chance on winning and she finally reach the title as the youngest artist to reach EGOT status. 🙌 Let’s remember she already has an Emmy, a Tony and a Grammy Award.

Ariana being a famous pop star played against her this award season for sure since wicked is a vocally focused movie they did not think she worked as hard due to being an acomplished singer. Had Galinda been played by an actor with zero musical experience, they’d have won. The same played against Lady Gaga for A Star Is Born but at least she got her flowers at the songwriting section.
And the thing is Wicked needed vocally trained leads for it to work. The reason why the movie works is because both Ariana and Cynthia are trained musical performers. But it’s also wild and it speaks on the academy voters just following the status quo of early reactions and not doing research. It was incredible for Ariana to be able to reach the vocal range she did as Glinda considering she’s used to singing in a total different range for her pop career. I think she explained that she had to train her entire vocal cords muscles for this role. There’s so many technical things about singing that are often overlooked. So many vocally trained singers have spoken on this better than I ever could. Of course, it would’ve been impressive if a non-singer did this but doing the switch for an actual singer to other sound is super hard.
And it’s not only the singing part I do genuinely believe her mannerisms were on point. She was charming and funny even when we weren’t suppose to like her. She managed to honor Kristin’s rendition from Broadway while still making it feel new and authentic and at times I forgot she was being played by Ariana Grande. She embodied that role and reminded me of old Hollywood comedic focused performances.
They did not give her the win because 1. She’s a famous pop singer and 2. They don’t reward comedic performances. And it’s an incredible shame. That’s why even Ariana LOSING for the Comedy/Musical categories at the start of this award season fees absolute unfair to me.
