yk when it comes to clint’s age i always choose what i find funny, so to me he’s 29 bc i find it hilarious that he’s had so much shit happen to him and he’s not even thirty yet
i think clint is now written as being 30-something or maybe even early 40s by people who wanna be ridiculous but yeah, he should be freshly in his 30s maybe. the refusal to age peter parker for a while really should bring down the ages of a good chunk of marvel characters that were around congruently when the amazing spider-man (and fantastic four, of course, but it's easy to mark milestones with peter) was progressing in real time in the 60s: the original x-men, ff, first few avengers roster, daredevil, etc.
clint should only be a few years or so older than him...but comics of course go buckwild with characters aging at different scales, like half the x-men aging at varying rates jumping from young teen to 20s in the same time another character goes from like 22 to 24. and there's no point in trying to calculate what the actual age should be of any character born on-panel bc they're either baby forever or suddenly 13. you know the drill.
Hiya! I was just scrolling through your blog (mighty fun, btw!) and noticed a couple times you mention Hawkeye was 19 when he joined the Avengers. Is that just speculation or do you have any sources for that?
Asking because my friend and I have been trying to decipher ages and the most I’ve come to in terms of conclusions is Jan is at least 23 and Steve is (mentally/physically) in his early 20s. There may have been debate that Clint is in his late 20s, so I’d love to hear your thoughts!
speculation with sources!
jan actually does celebrate her 23rd birthday on-panel so i would say she's about 21 when she names the avengers.
meanwhile, clint's exact age was never explicitly mentioned (nor was his name for 60+ issues. simultaneously a man of mystery and 0 mystery). however, he was always grouped with wanda and pietro when all the other characters were complaining about how annoying those new youngsters were. wanda and pietro were stated to be about 19 when they joined the avengers at the same time as clint, so voila, anywhere from 19-21 for clint is what i go with.
i think steve is supposed to be about "25"--and clint making fun of a dude who's, for all intents and purposes, 25, and who at the time of the comic was chronologically only 45, for being the pruniest pebble of sand to ever grace the sahara and drastically bring up the mean age of the entire desert really only works if he's at the very least a few years shy of 25. it's still ridiculous of course but it makes more sense.
(in retrospect his initials are also hawkeye bc nobody wanted to bother giving him a name. america's very own pup named dog)
hey bestie I just wanna know your opinion of the Marvel Rivals skins for our boy so far!! They just announced Ronin but I actually quite like his Freefall skin. Just curious abt your thoughts
love his freefall skin, they don't put the purple detailing on the same places as his comic counterpart but it's the better version of his modern costume to utilize for the game with its stylization. more purple highlights make it pop vs the all black with just the purple chevron. the ronin skin i'm a little more iffy on. it looks like they almost were going with the cheeto fingers version in the marvel's avengers game with the gloves...that are fingerless? also not sure if i'm sold on the hood
idk what i mean by mullety😔 i think i’ve seen too much fanart of him with that style but i love when he’s all shaggy
that's fair, i just saw some fanart that actually looks exactly like what you initially described and got it. like a mullet but without the cropped crew front of days of yore, the new concept of a mullet, tight sides. the comics should let him grow his hair out again so artists can fight to the death over what his hair should be in different appearances. y'know, if he was actually consistently appearing in titles again,
This comic is, as is usual for Wednesday’s comics, chosen by my Patrons. Speaking of…

I re-uploaded cause there's something wrong with the images(or my internet(sobbing
the mcu should’ve let clint be the shitty 19 year old that he was when he joined the avengers
at this point where's his under the red hood-esque animated special with him at his different life stages. where is my annoying son. cap's kooky quartet section where he's as exasperating as this but voiced to actually sound his obnoxious age
just remembered how the mcu did clint as ronin and died a little inside
alas since mcu clint had like 10 minutes of screentime he didn't get to have like 15 identity crises and quitting and rejoining and quitting the avengers and dying reviving dying reviving dying reviving of 616 clint that helped back up the notion that now he's wearing This Costume which was also initially a stretch in the comics at the time
although they did have a stand-in for losing his family (the avengers team) after a cataclysmic event by making him...lose a family in a cataclysmic event.
also the switch to "now i'm considering using lethal force..." didn't exist in the mcu bc he was already an assassin. though in the comics making him the one wanting to assassinate osborn was out of left field (i guess that's what could make it seem more impactful since he's mr. avengers don't kill but again,) soooo....back to paragraph 1
i did enjoy reunion's reframing!
but bc clint didn't get any backstory in the mcu (can u believe they still deleted his flashbacks when he wasn't even in an ensemble anymore) there's less tying him to the bow and nothing giving him significance over using other weapons
like bobbi's bo-staff here for one, but also swordsman was in the show but had nothing to do with clint...when he's why he knows how to use a sword expertly in 616. we can all assume SHIELD trained mcu clint in weapons versatility but it's not as fun
i will say that my fav hair on clint is when it’s kinda mohawky, love shaved sides with a longer top, kinda mullety almost
hold on i gotta pin the details down otherwise i fear we've lost the plot on what a mullet is. do you mean like...a grown out crewcut?
or specifically with the short sides but a little bit more going on in the back? like below but if just the sides were more shaved or closely cropped?
or do you mean an almost reverse mullet....in which case this may be a road i cannot follow you on
please mail your answers from almost mullet road
personally, i'm partial to his long shaggy hair from right before he died, which shows he gets wavy texture at a certain length
i guess you can argue the slight waviness was also present in his goliath and 70s days, but that's sort of how a lot of hair was drawn at the time
but wada also maintained it when drawing clint from that era. yay
i also liked his length during his new avengers ronin era (you could kinda see it get gradually longer through the run)
although it looks like he lost his waviness in death. rip
he also kept the length going during the switch back to hawkeye for the heroic age
(looking very redford-esque here)
but wouldn't you know it, the hair all got chopped off to Bald for a terrifying few issues and then the crewcut he's had for the past 13 years to synergize with the release of the avengers movie. rip his luscious locks
