a quick letter to my Directioner friend I don’t talk to anymore:
something has definitely shifted. this feels like a turning point in life, as so many pop culture events do, that we can’t ever go back from. we’ll never get a full reunion tour from our favorite band, the band that anchored our friendship, the band that created our inside jokes, the band you showed me.
and it seems like we won’t reunite either.
I contemplated messaging you multiple times over the last few days, but I don’t think I can handle the possibility of me mourning this more than you. that you might just like my message and move on, screenshotting it and sending to friends we used to share saying “lol why did she message me.”
I don’t miss our friendship much, I don’t mourn our breakup. but it still lives within me. we were safe places until we weren’t, we shared it all until we didn’t, we laughed until we went silent. maybe that’s why I didn’t mourn as hard when the band broke up originally, my version of the band was already gone.
Up All Night will always be my favorite, because that’s the album I shared with you.
