i think sometimes it’s okay for characters to only serve a narrative purpose in another character’s story. like, yes, if it’s always the female/poc/etc characters that die or aren’t developed and there aren’t any others if these characters that should be examined but also like. it’s a story. all the characters are narrative tools. within the confines of the story you do not necessarily have the time or leeway to individually develop every character nor do you have to. sometimes spending too much time on side characters’ lives is actually detrimental to the story being told. also if you make every character who is underdeveloped or dies a straight abled white man you are going to end up with a world where 90% of the characters are straight abled white men. which would also not be preferable

Like a year ago I had dinner with my family and a family from church and my pastor's family and we were talking abt music and he explained that the only way he listens to music is by choosing a song and playing only that song on loop until he gets sick of it and chooses another song and that it can last for hours or days. And this is how his family listens to music in the car like he makes his family listen to the same song on loop in the car for days at a time. And I just remembered that now because that's an insane thing to do
