misty getting caught with the transponder
One of the things that fuels my social anxiety is the unsettling, overwhelming feeling that everyone is hiding something dark and evil. They're just horrible people who know how to put on a mask.
"The kind, sweet lady who gave you a ride home? She could be a vile, racist person."
"The old man who can’t even walk on his own? You wouldn’t see him the same way if you knew the things he’s done to people."
"That friendly man who smiles and kindly holds the door open for you? Everyone knows him as the polite, respectful, generous man. All they see is his smile. But I wonder if his children scatter in fear when he gets home. If he treats his wife like a slave, if she looks like a walking corpse. If girls are told to cover up when he’s around."
"This person has lived a long life. You weren’t watching every part of it. How do you know they aren’t evil? You don’t know them. You don’t know anyone. You don’t know what people are capable of. You don’t know how easy it is for them to do the most heinous things, then put on their mask, pretending to be innocent."
What is wrong with me? The fact that I can never truly know what’s hiding behind a smiling, friendly face is actually horrifying to me. I wish I didn’t have that voice in my head.
I wish I could just see the smile.
Sometimes you have a conversation with someone or you get into an argument with them and you realize they aren’t even perceiving you at all, they already have a whole script in their mind and they’ve slotted you into a role as a prop in that preconceived story. Any time you say anything it’s not even registering to them because for them it’s just filler dialogue for when they get to say the next degrading thing to you. I get this feeling a lot when Christian missionaries talk to me but I’ve had it so many times in relationship arguments too
little petty thing
but like has anybody else noticed how most alt-fashion (emo, punk, Lolita, etc.) is like pretty much impossible to wear if you live in a hot climate or are prone to overheating in any way?
like most of these styles are very much dependent on dark colors, jackets, thick fabrics, excessive layers etc. which if you live in a hotter climate you KNOW is hell to wear.
and this isn’t like a “just tough it out” issue, if you live in an actually hot climate wearing this stuff risks heat-stroke and other related complications especially if you have a disability that makes you heat sensitive.
but people in the community that can wear these things due to their climate often look down on people who can’t. Like omg I’m so sorry that I’m not as punk as you because wearing a thick battle jacket would suffocate the shit out of us.
obviously there are bigger problems in the world we understand that it’s just annoying and like do others agree?
you guys must understand that you can make the bible (& any other religious text, but i mostly see this in the context of christianity) say anything you want it to say. i’m serious. if you want to read the bible as a socially progressive document, you can pick a few passages and say, “look! christianity is actually a loving religion that has always been pro-woman and pro-lgbt!” but you can also just as easily (actually way more easily lol) read the bible as a conservative document, a fascist document, a libertarian document, etc etc.
& so if you’re arguing with a conservative christian, if you start arguing with them about how some policy isn’t right *on the grounds of christianity*, you are never going to win. ever. you’re just going to end up (at best) talking in circles around each other about theology, while also implicitly validating the idea that christianity is a good foundation upon which political decisions can be made.
argue about politics based on politics. don’t ever meet a conservative christian on their turf. you will lose.
