The third morning in a row that Evan leaves the bed before dawn has even broken, Tommy decides to follow him out. The house feels foreign still, a little bigger than the loft and not yet enough Evan in it, but it’s not as foreign as stirring awake on a mattress cooling in the wake of its deserter and the footsteps padding down the hall. Tommy listens for a moment, and decides there’s only so much space you could give, so silent you could be in your consideration, before that space becomes two ghosts in a home.
