Two more storytelling tropes that point to Byler
If Will were a girl… she’d be the good-hearted girl you see in COUNTLESS STORIES, from fairy tales to romantic comedies to telenovelas. The boy she wants is unattainable -- he might be a prince, or he's dating someone else who's richer or more "beautiful"... She isn't "supposed" to have her dreams come true.
Will is gay, and so thinks he's "not gonna fall in love":
So the girl settles with being the boy's best friend, the best support person she can be. This is another archetype: what TV Tropes describes as the "The Girl Next Door," the "approachable, unassuming girl he thinks of as his best friend, his childhood pal, even just One of the Boys... she will always be easy to talk to and usually a good listener. But she also tends to be frank with her opinions and expects the same in return."
Even though society looks down on her and says "of course" people like her don't get their dreams, she puts on a good front and always prioritizes others, even to her own detriment:
She only has her heroic ability to love. She's the UNDERDOG. And the trope is that she wins the boy's heart.
