👩🍳new fic up!
I’ve always wanted to do a 5+1 fic, so I had fun writing this because it’s like doing a relationship timeline (and it gave me an excuse to rewatch some of their best clips on the show).

the ENTIRETY of crowning glory really, I don't even think I can pick one favorite passage. It's just all fantastic. It's the best character study of Mai & Michi and Mai & Izumi I've ever read, and it shows the contrast of those two relationships so well (and highlights the complexity of the first in a way that's so rarely done)! Kudos for that fr, that fic lives in my brain rent-free
Lavi you're so sweet thank you for this :((
crowning glory was born out of my personal desire to see more fics under the Good Parent Mai ao3 tag, which eventually turned into a personal mission of writing the Michi-Mai-Izumi parallels.
I'm still working on the third story for the series (hoping I could release it during Maiko Week!)
In the meantime, here's a little peek <3

Finally found the time to read Sunrise on the Reaping and my heart hurts for Haymitch and the friendships he had to cut off after winning the Games.
Thinking about Burdock and Blair and how they were there to pin Haymitch down when he wanted to dive into the flames of his burning home so he could join his Ma and Sid in death.
How they were there to catch him when he returned to the ashes of his home, tried to offer their own homes as possible places for Haymitch to stay, and how they slept on the couch in Victor's Village because they didn't want to leave him alone after the funeral.
Burdock and Blair are real ones.
Thinking about Maysilee Donner. A girl who refused to let the Capitol dehumanize her. A girl who wanted to die with dignity, without begging for her life, because that mattered to her. Who set up a place setting with napkins and forks in the middle of the arena because she is a human being. Who loved jewelry and fashion and believed that her appearance sends a message about who she is, and who wanted that message to be respectable, dignified, worth something.
Thinking about Maysilee Donner who was unafraid to slap the woman who pulled her name in the reaping and who threw clever insults towards anyone who provoked her, no matter who they were. Maysilee Donner who believed human dignity is inherent but respect is earned and who refused to give respect to those who did not deserve it.
Maysilee Donner whose father threw money at the reaping stage as if that could save her, and the money floated to the ground just like the confetti, meaningless paper that signified nothing when placed against the power of the Capitol. Whose privilege could not save her. Who recognized that reality and faced it with more fortitude than any person should ever have to display. Maysilee Donner.
It's not even that much about Kiyi. But the creators seemingly got so lost in the sauce that their ideas about how absolutist monarchies work are as good as taken out of Disney movies now. So, let's set the record straight.
