FMA related questions, answers, headcanon, facts, AUs, trivia, memes, images, caps, quotes & ships.... I don't ship police. (Non-FMA stuff like PSAs will be shared at my discretion.)

So we’re finally here at the end of  FMA 2003 month and at the beginning of 2021! There haven’t been a lot of posters, but that is to be expected considering the circumstances. I would still like to thank the people who did participate and also thank the ones who took the time to like and reblog the posts as well! All the support we can get is nice. Hopefully we’ll get more attention next year around. Anyway, thank you so much!

what the FUCK was Tchaikovsky thinking when he wrote the pas de deux for the sugar plum fairy????dude wrote that first buildup and then he fucking edges you with some fakeout crescendo that sounds absolutely amazing. then boom, you think he’s going in for his big finish, he’s got that second moment where all the instruments are coming together and it sounds otherworldly but he’s like WAIT hoes I ain’t even finished yet. then BOOM he hits you with the most magical, transcendent, beautiful fucking note change after that third buildup and MY GOD!!!! it’s just too good. Tchaikovsky, that absolutely madman. I know the Russians were tripping the fuck out in the ballet when he dropped this. just,,MUAH perfection!!!

All that just for the Princess Tutu soundtrack too. Dude must of really loved anime I guess

do you have any resources or information specifically for someone that experiences (or thinks they do) romantic attraction but prefers QPP? I assume that falls under the aro umbrella somewhere but feel weird claiming it when the definition of aro seems to be the exact opposite of it. "no romantic attraction but may choose to enter romantic relationships with others" =/= "romantic attraction possible but official romantic relationships are unappealing".

That is a completely valid experience and you are welcome to any aro identity label that you feel fits, or to just use queerplatonic terminology if that's what you prefer.

As a community, we have a tendency to define aromanticism as the absence of romantic attraction, but it's so much more than that. Aromanticism and related concepts exist for ALL people who find society's prioritization of romance to be stifling. You don't have to fit any particular criteria to take on an aro label besides that it's a useful word to describe how you feel and find community with others who have similar experiences.

Grayromantic, more specifically, exists for those who relate to aromanticism, but also feel like there is some aspect of their experience that doesn't quite fit with it either. Essentially it describes both identification with and disconnection from aromanticism.

(Fun fact: the romantic attraction definition of aromanticism comes from the AVEN definition of asexuality, which from its conception never accurately described all asexual people. It was created to be intentionally inclusive of people who might have sex for whatever reason, but never intended to exclude those with the parallel experience to yours - experiencing sexual attraction but not wanting sex. That was just kind of an unhappy coincidence. If this is interesting, Google "Andrew Hinderliter definition of asexuality" he has some interesting essays on this history.)

I’ve often wondered why FMA 03 isn’t considered one of the great/classic anime out there anymore. It’s definitely not because anime viewers aren’t interested in mature material. FMA 03 was adored by critics on its initial release, and series like Cowboy Bebop and Monster remain widely praised and loved to this day. Anime fans dig mature material, as well as the more straight-forward/fun material.

So, why then has FMA 03 been so widely dismissed after FMAB’s release? There’s only one reason I can think of: it’s because it’s chained to a franchise whose dominant fanbase couldn’t care less about it. I feel like FMA 03 is shackled by being a part of the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.

So many people prefer the storyline of FMAB (likely due to it mostly following the manga) to what FMA 03 has to offer that FMA 03 is completely overshadowed by its mere association with FMAB. This trend only continues to grow as more FMA newcomers are directed straight to FMAB by the FMAB-dominated fanbase while said fanbase promptly dismisses FMA 03 as “that adaptation that didn’t follow the manga”, drastically oversimplifying the situation and potentially robbing people who might enjoy the vastly different tale FMA 03 has to offer of the chance to do so.

Instead of being classified as an entirely different series (like it deserves to be, in all honesty, as it differs from FMAB and the manga in almost every significant way), FMA 03 remains an entry in the FMA franchise only to be swept under the rug, gathering dust. It really saddens me to see it so widely disregarded and/or blatantly ignored. It deserves so much better, especially when equal or lesser shows are in turn being given more of a spotlight (simply because they aren’t weighed down by an apathetic fanbase and association with FMAB; no, that’s solely FMA 03’s burden to bear).

Aside from your obviously great points (because yes 03 specifically is a honored classic, FMAB fans like it or not), the problem here lays on the modern fandom where mainstream behavior is things are my way or no way at all. In our context it means that it’s not like FMAB fans do not care for 03, they care too much because of all the things 03 did differently and better, and they feel comparison takes out merit to FMAB, makes it look less flawless if you want (spoilers: it’s by no means flawless). This is of course an objective observation, as the fact I can understand this mentality doesn’t mean I agree with it.

Listen to me, it would be SO EASY to just say FMA as a franchise has a manga and two anime adaptations: one that came out while the manga was in its chapter 20-ish and for obvious reasons diverges from the manga early, and another one that came out almost a decade later to specifically sync its end with the manga’s culmination, and that obviously follows it. Then let people watch, appreciate both with their similarities and differences, and decide which one they like better.

Instead it almost seems like FMAB totalitarians are afraid that people might accidentally check out 03 and like it better, so I guess their solution is to just cut the problem from its root and prevent people to consider it at all?

my friend brought up that she wanted to watch fma and that she heard 03 sucks and fmab is way better, and i had to take a deep breathe before explaining that that’s propaganda. they’re equally amazing for different reasons and you gotta decide for yourself. i personally recommend watching 03 first then fmab, just because if you watch fmab first it will be a lot harder to sit through 03 due to its slower pace where fmab parses.

Not only is there a widely spread misconception that 03 strays from the manga plot at episode 25, and any 03 plot relevant episode is dismissed as "filler" to support claiming that BH is a superior series

there's also an actual movement to suppress new blood. I don't know how many people were going to watch 03 because they want to learn about the FMA I am most involved with, and told me that their other friends actively tried to talk them out of it. Some succeeded, I know people who lost interest in the whole thing because of BH stans so aggressively urging them to switch.

Someone who just joined us last year often complains that they see people regularly dissuading people from watching 03 still.

They paint it as doing the other people a favor because 03 is so bad it would be an egregious waste of their time to determine this for themselves, rather than have someone else's opinion imposed on them.

I hate Milos but I don't tell people not to watch it, it's not my call to make and just because I don't like it doesn't mean that's true for anyone else I know.

oh, and don't get me started on all the 03 art and quotes I see attributed to Brotherhood even when they make no sense or contradict Brotherhood canon. Tumblr posts tagged as Brotherhood when they're not. 03 haters that can't even be bothered to check things before sharing them. That takes attention away from their actual source and credits it to someone else, giving 03 less exposure.

If 03 is so bad why are you posting quotes from it all over your social media of choice? Doesn't Brotherhood have its own decent quotes to choose from instead of misquoting from the wrong series?

03 lives in the shadow of Brotherhood because people can't respect that 03 contributed to the entire franchise's fame, or understand the nuance of appreciating both series for their own merits.

I'm actually a fan of Brotherhood but I'm tired of seeing it lauded as a perfect masterpiece, when both series have their flaws and you generally don't see 03 fans going "oh don't watch that other series, it's terrible" when we can instead say watch both and have a chance to enjoy almost twice the content.

Also, story aside, people like to ignore that Brotherhood was made years later and had new tech to work with, acting like 03 wasn't impressive for its time. It came out in 2003.

Nevermind the fact that Brotherhood had six extra years to make an anime that was more impressive than 03 and still fell short on providing an accurate manga adaptation, effectively causing a bunch of manga canonblind BH fans to blame Arakawa for where the anime fell flat in delivery.

but that's not the subject of this post.

Support all FMA canons.

Wait wuh pooteen resigned?

I've personally seen so much conflicting information on this, I'm not the person to ask. I just posted the meme because it was an accurate representation of my tumblr at the time, and was how I found out the ray ban hacking was widespread.

Last I heard it wasn't true, but if anyone has verified information either way with sources, I'd appreciate it.

As you celebrate thanksgiving, know that the Trump administration is taking away 321 acres of land from the Mashpee-Wampanoag, the tribe that helped the pilgrims survive and were present at the first thanksgiving. Tell legislators to support the Mashpee Reservation Reaffirmation Act. ]

For those who don’t live in Massachusetts, that is literally ALL THE LAND THEY HAVE! All of it. The state aims to make the entire ~3000 person tribe homeless.

If you want more information the tribe themselves have a website for you to look at! Please spread the word and reach out to your networks so people are feeling specifically asked to act upon this… it is incumbent upon all of us to stand up for our Mashpee-Wampanoag siblings at this time. We MUST be their allies. We MUST uplift their voices and support what their asks are.

We owe all Indigenous peoples in this country so much more than this… but this is a start.
