Linguist, engineer, scientist, a pretty fair mechanic... an Explorer. Carter IRL. Tends to attach oneself to characters bound to be killed by season 2. Has too many OTPs to count. Sometimes writes and fiddles with photoshop. Returned to fandom(s) after trying to pretend to be "Normal" for more than a decade... this is better - trust me :)

online communities are so strange because people slip away so easily. you can be on here for years, folding people you've never met into the fabric of your daily life, and then they disappear, leaving only ghost posts scattered across tumblr behind. or their blog stays dormant, for weeks, months, years, until you're only still following them because you remember that they love sunflowers or they were kind to you when they didn't have to be or the last thing they posted was sad and raw and you still worry about them sometimes.

and sometimes they come back when you least expect it, years later, even, and there's this sudden rush of relief like there you are, there you are, even though you barely knew each other.

there's a strange kind of love to it. i don't know you and i want to hold your hand across miles and time zones and oceans. i can still see the imprint of you in this community you left. you don't think anyone will notice or care when you're gone, but we notice and we care and we wish you well.

i hope you're all okay out there. i hope the sun is shining on your face and you are breathing deeply. i miss you.

i wish star trek got more specific with the disciplines of its scientist and engineer characters i want to know what janeway did her senior thesis on

I kind of always thought that Janeway was an astrophysicist in her science track as Jeri Taylor had her studying massive compact halo objects during Aries mission... Also there is never any mention of her having a PhD. So.. Masters probably?

A friend asked what my favorite Star Trek show is now that I’ve finished them all. And the thing is, I’m not one for favorites generally, but I am a sucker for a good narrative thread. So, kind of wrapping most of the movies into their corresponding TV shows, here’s my take:

TOS/TAS had an idea, and they just fkin ran with it in a dead sprint

TNG picked that idea up and built a blueprint. It grew that idea into a whole world

DS9 and VOY took that world and played in it, frolicking in the fields, pushing its limits to see what would break, making it their own

ENT said “you’ve built a real nice house here. Mind if I go play in the crawl space for a bit?” (A bit confusing, as a world isn’t a house, but ehh fuck it yeah let’s go take a peek at the foundations. Could be fun)

The Kelvin Timeline looked at this world and said “oooh pretty!!!” without ever really understanding what it was holding. But, it was my first glimpse of the world, so I can’t be too upset.

DIS took the old world that hadn’t been taken seriously on screen for a while and decided to visit, tour around, kick the tires and see if it’ll still turn over. It does.

SNW stepped into this vast and complex and dynamic world and reminded it of The Idea that started it all in the first place

PIC was a class reunion, and a beautiful one at that

With the world alive and kicking again and the old idea finally returned, Prodigy and LD followed the old DS9/VOY lead: they ran in the meadow again. They frolicked. They played.

Favorite? Nah. It’s all Trek. It all has its place. It’s all home.

Well said. This - this is exactly what Star Trek is all about! IDIC.

Thank you!
