I realized I’d been holding back on drawing cats recently, and my portfolio definitely needed some more. This piece was a fun opportunity to experiment with metal textures and multiple elements in a composition. There is a subtle GIF with four frames of moving whiskers.

I loved getting lost in the creative process. It took some time to figure out the cat stylization and level of detail, but I’m happy with the result. This project has sparked an interest in creating more fan art which is something I’ve shied away from.

Also, I love Alphonse Elric as a character. He is a child whose soul is bound to an empty set of armor, which makes him look intimidating. He is kind and has a love for animals, especially cats. Since he is young and has the innocence of youth taken away from him, through his interactions with animals we get to see him get to be young and playful again.

Hey in case you've been reading the manga and you're not someone who cooks, I want you to know that so far (up to chapter five) Senshi's cooking info is all totally solid.

Like. At one point he compares using the gelatin from a carnivorous plant with the pectin from a different plant and points out that the gelatin sets better. Gelatin *does* set and bind better than pectin in most cases.

I just read the chapter with frying mandrakes and everything from testing the temperature of the oil with a chopstick to whisking the egg/water/flour batter with a pair of chopsticks (after sifting the flour to make sure it doesn't clump) to talking about when to flip fried foods and at what temperature to fry them is. Just. It's more attention to cooking than I've seen in most media.

(Also if you're not from a culture that uses chopsticks regularly, try whisking with a pair of chopsticks sometime. I make my fried mushroom fritters with the same technique that Senshi makes his mandrake tempura and it's great - chopsticks act like a combination of whisk and tongs and are really handy when whisking batter and transferring battered food to hot oil and flipping frying food, you get so much more control than you would by, like, using a slotted spoon to move the food around in the oil).

I had been under the impression that cooking was a big part of the story but I didn't expect that it would be a big part of the story in a "here's a half-page panel that shows an efficient technique for mincing root vegetables" way.

It really shouldn't surprise me so much that 'men are human beings' pisses so many people off considering I myself was steeped far into into radical feminism enough at one time to be like, "Are they really, though?" but it is disappointing to see how the attitude has spread since I pulled myself back out of it.

Btw, no one is telling you to go up to Matt Walsh and try to have a deep conversation about where and how his fee fees were hurt and why he acts this way.

We're telling you to reassure the sixteen year old boy asking on reddit what he can do about being a man because he feels so bad about it and and if there's any way to not be a bad person despite it that he's not irreparably damaged and destined to go full Anakin just because of the sex he was born as and maybe watch where and how you do your venting because why the fuck have I seen so many questions along these lines from young men on reddit the past few years.

There was also an uptick of young trans men posting questions in trans reddits asking how to get themselves to 'not want to become an icky predatory male' despite their dysphoria over the past several years too.

The dehumanization of men hurts me as a nonbinary transfem person too. It hurts me because many ppl still see me as male, and it hurts me because I see myself as part male. And thirdly because I want to be free to express my gender how I want, and I cannot do that if I have to run from or denounce masculinity in order to be accepted in left-wing circles. That's not freedom, it's toxic.

It's also homophobic to gay men let's be real.
