♡ the hero abandoning their post to warn the criminal about an incoming trap.

♡ "i am supposed to hate you, i have spent my entire life hunting those like you, why can't i just hate you?"

♡ the hero’s own organization uses them as bait for the criminal. in retaliation, the criminal burns the whole thing to the ground.

♡ "sometimes i wish this hadn't been the life i was born into, and then i remember that i wouldn't have met you. unless you were picking my pocket of course."

♡ "has it ever occurred to you that i make you do this shit because i'm trying to protect you?"

♡ the mentor waking up their mentee with a cold bucket of ice water every day at the crack of dawn, as a form of 'discipline.'

♡ "i'm good." "i did not train you to be good, i trained you to be exceptional."

♡ the mentor steps up in the place of a parental figure and even walks their mentee down the aisle at their wedding.

♡ "do me a favor? do not die." "great advice. thanks." the character's response is coated in sarcasm.

♡ "i will always stand in your corner, do not ever doubt my loyalty to you."

♡ every time the character screws up their mentor hits them with water from a water gun.

♡ "you insufferable child! do you not understand? this, all of this, is so you can live. when the time comes and i am gone, you will live."

♡ the mentor knows they'll pass soon so they pass on all the knowledge they have learned in 80+ years to a teenager/young adult who doesn't know their right from left.

♡ both never smiling but the edge of their mouth ticks up when the other is not looking.

♡ both characters begin questioning their "no commitment" rules for each other.

♡ "i would not hate it if you stayed." "did you just say you wanted me to stay?" "no, i said i would not hate it if you did."

♡ fingers slightly brushing once and they both pull away immediately, but then they slowly let their hands drop again and intertwine fingers.
